  • Comments: I have read many report that mentioned lack of volunteers, disorganization, etc... I really didn't experience any of that. Yes, I did think that it was funny that they were calling out for anyone who wanted to be a wetsuit stripper, but by the time I came through, there were some. I think the police officers did a good job of monitoring the roads. The cones and the car/rider signs were a little confusing, but everything worked out fine.

  • Comments: They do a nice job with the overall atmosphere and the communication system was far superior to last year's. I had debated not doing it, but since the money was spent, figured might as well. Glad I did. Despite the tough swim and sore shoulders, I had a good time.

  • Comments: It's my first race - so all I have to compare to is what I've dreamt up :) I enjoyed the race and thought it was a great 1st experience. If anything, I was hoping for more post-race activities.

  • Comments: I will not do another PlayTri race. i'm sure they are great people, but the last PlayTri race I did the lack of volunteers sent several runners (my hubby included) off course for over a mile. I think having weak volunteer turnout is the biggest failure w/this race.

  • Comments: I have heard some comments about people not feeling like the race was organized, but I thought it was a good race overall. It would have been nice not to have to wait in such a long food line, but nice that the hamburgers were hot and just coming off the grill. While I was checking out the results, a man came up to me to tell me that I made his heart jump a couple of times when he saw me on the course. He said that my smile, braids in my hair and visor all looked like one of his swim clients. He said that he had coached a woman who had died last year and that I reminded him of her. We talked for a couple of minutes and the woman was Dorothy from the Dallas area who died at IMFL in the fall. He told me about how her husband was doing IMAZ that day in memory of her. One other comment I had was that there were times while I was on the bike and run course that I was asking myself "Why in the world are you doing triathlons as you are so much slower than most people and don't seem to be making

  • Comments: Well I get my phone and have 3 messages from my wife. I can't really read them because of the sun but see race and emergency so I call her. Well aparently when they got there they went to cross the street. Looked and saw bikes coming so my son stepped out, they did not realize there was bikes coming the other way (HIM leaders I think). One of them clips my son, knocks him down but the rider stayed up. My wife/son freak and the EMT's come and say they think he probably has a broken leg. They ask her if they should go find me but she says no and take my son to the hospital for X-rays. Well I grab my bike and head to leave transition not caring at this moment about awards. The guy at the exit says no leaving yet but I interupt and say what is going on and he sees my number and says to go. I think he was informed I would be there. I rush to the hospital but luckily no broken bone and he was running around like crazy this afternoon. Here is what sucks, my wife was not paying

  • Comments: The spectator crowd control was awful. There were tons of people in the way around the finish line and by transition. It was pretty ridiculous. My parents said they saw some kid get his leg broken cause he ran out on the course in front of a cyclist. The traffic control was great on the bike. The buoys were big and well spaced. Very easy to see. I had a lot of fun seeing how far I could push myself. I think I did awesome considering that this was my first open water swim, and the longest race I have ever done. I was hoping to finish in 3:30, and really out did that goal! First Olympic race complete!!!! Next stop, Ironman 70.3...

  • Comments: There were several events all going on today. The organization was lacking and the number of volunteers was low. It wasn't horrible, but there was room for improvement. It seemed to be lacking excitement. The lighting in the pre-dawn hours was horrible. Bringing a clip on light for my visor next time might be a good idea!
