  • Comments: With 1,000+ participants, this was the largest race I've done to date. It was a pretty neat experience, and it was a great venue on the lake and in the park, also great weather! I had never seen so many tri bikes at once, that was a sight. Organizationally, no issues for me. Also. I went to the awards ceremony at the host hotel, and it turns out there was an EIGHTY-EIGHT (88) year-old man who completed the race!! Wow. Everyone gave him a standing ovation. It was quite touching. Also as I was driving away from the hotel there was a man who I believe was in his 70s who was standing on the side of the road looking for a ride. I thought it was so funny that this old man was trying to hitch a ride! I deemed him safe as he had an AG award around his neck and race numbers on his arm so I dropped him off downtown. :D

  • Comments: Overall, I should be pleased with my result. I cracked the 2:10 barrier, and finished in the top 10% overall at Nationals. However, I know if I had my best race things could have gone better. Still, I beat my time from the previous year by over seven minutes. On a sad note, a racer in his 50's passed away during his swim leg. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family. The triathlon family lost a dedicated athlete today. Now, I've got ten days of harder training before tapering for Vegas. Off for a recovery bike, then a swim later on today.

  • Comments: My goal going in was to be under 2:06, but I really thought I should be under 2:04 with good execution. I can't be too disappointed with a 2:06:15 with poor execution, but I really wanted to come away feeling like I raced the best I am capable of and I am confident I didn't do that. In fact I think it was one of my worst races all year, only my tapering allowed me to have a best time. A secondary goal of mine was to get a 10K PR on the run because I felt like I improved my run speed significantly since I set that PR (40:48) and I should be able to beat that on a fairly easy course. The 43 minute run, while not too far off my PR, is a major disappointment. I will be spending my offseason exclusively running so I don't have to feel like this again.

  • Comments: Great to be a part of Nationals and after not getting to compete last year due to a friend's wedding, I'm glad I was there. It was too hard to pass up an opportunity to race nationals this close to home. However, racing in a race with this caliber of competition a week after an IM where I gave it everything, was not a good idea. Lesson learned! :)

  • Comments: The one thing they could have done better was more swim buoys and kayaks. It would have been OK with the amount they had if the water hadn't been so choppy.

  • Comments: This may have been the biggest race I have done. By far, the biggest competition in my age group. Rev3 only had 34 in my AG. This had 142! I knew I'd get crushed, but my goal (besides finishing) was to finish in the middle of my AG pack. That was accomplished -- Top 58% overall, top 38% female, top 45% AG. A mixed bag. I was pleased I qualified to attend and wanted to go for the experience. I can't complain about anything. This was the icing on the cake. The good Lord answered all my prayers again. I'll write more about this in my blog: www.tritritritri.blogspot.com

  • Comments: I guess the course had to be tough for the national championships, but the event wasn't well organized. One bottle of warm water at the end of the race - that's it! No gatorade and they wouldn't even give me a second bottle of water! The post race food was spicy Mexican. Who the hell can eat that after a race? Post race was the worst I have ever experienced.

  • Comments: I was 607 out of 850 women finishers. Granted, this was the national age group championship. It's just a hard nut to swallow. Very humbling. I ran into the AquaPhor Guy that I see at all the DQ races. He asked how I did and said he knew he wouldn't make top 25 in his age group. He told me not to feel badly about being 27th. Wendy was 56th in her age group out of 113 and she's really good (2:39:26).
