  • Organised?
  • Events on time?Yes

  • Lots of volunteers to help?
  • Plenty of drink stations?Yes

  • Post race activities? Bad
  • Overall course based on my ability:

  • Comments: I don't know why I do this race. It doesn't have great anything except volunteer support on the run. There is basically no build up to the race, there's no award ceremony for the HIM course racers, they were already shutting down the post-race food. It's really uninspiring in general. I treated this more of a training day than a race.

  • Post race activities? Average
  • Overall course based on my ability: Too hard

  • Comments: I knew this race was going to be hilly going in, but the run course was brutal. In my training bike/run bricks, I was averaging under 9 min/mile runs after a hilly bike rideI was disappointed with my over 11 min/mile pace on the run and very surprised to find I'd finished 4th for the ladies. I would do this course again just for the challenge of improving my time.

  • Overall course based on my ability: Just right

  • Comments: Quality race with a good Director. Lots of good volunteer. A beautiful setting. Be prepared for less-than-friendly racers, though. Such highly competitive fields tend to lose their kindness.

  • Overall course based on my ability: Too hard

  • Comments: This area of Missouri, Innsbruck, was absolutely georgous. It was one of the few things I could count on during that brutal bike and run, was that all I had to do to feel better was just look up at my surroundings. I loved the area. (hated the hills!)

  • Comments: This race was so well put together. I will be doing many more UltraMax events in the future. I am attaching my race recap that we do for our team..... USA Triathlon Half-Max National Championship Half-Ironman Distance- 1.2 mile swim / 56 mile bike / 13.1 mile run Courtney 09/16/2006 Day Before Race Julie, Dan (Julie's fiancĂ©), and I drove out to Innsbrook, MO on Friday. We got out to the resort, picked up our packets, and fielded all the "Are you really racing?" questions I got. I have a walking cast on my left leg because of a torn Achilles. I can easily get in and out of it by just a few Velcro straps. It looks worse than it really is, promise. I eventually started telling people that Time sent me special cleats to attach at the bottom of it, and Brooks was over-nighting me a size 20 left shoe so I could put the whole walking cast inside of it. I told this story enough times I began to get good at keeping a straight face and people started to really believe me. We

  • Comments: This was a good race - a lot better than I was anyway. I won't do it again b/c we're moving and I think this course was harder than I am able to put in the time to train for. I'd try a shorter race at this venue, but I'd go in knowing it was going to be a tough run. If you want a tough course, this is the place to race. The event support was great, lots of volunteers and aid stations.
