  • Comments: I always love racing Hy-Vee since this was our first tri back in 2007. I'm very proud of my race as this was a PR by almost 6 minutes (previous best time was 2:31:57 back in 2009). Just about everything came together for this race...wet suit legal, tri bike, no flat tire. Still, I expect to go sub 2:22 next year!

  • Comments: Great event to race and watch the best in the WORLD race in the afternoon. Can't beat this race as far as an overall triathlete experience for the weekend! Will definitely put this one on the calendar every year!

  • Comments: Great race. Great setting in downtown DSM. Bike course was well designed and the run to the Capitol is excellent. Lots of people throughout the course as well.

  • Comments: I expected a little better effort from the WTC for the 5150 Championships. It seems like they just wanted to get a hand in the Olympic distance, but didn't make an effort to separate the 5150 events from whatever triathlon they were connecting too. The only difference between the 5150 and the regular Hy-Vee was the finisher's medal. USAT definitely conducts better championship events. It was an awesome experience to watch the pros, and I'm glad we drove to Iowa just to experience that.

  • Comments: Very well organized from start to finish. Lots of schwagg at expo and in race packet. Good volunteer support too. Finish was kind of uneventful. Finisher's medal handed to me with not so much of a word. No finisher's photo, no direction to food, shuttles, or anything for that matter. Didn't know what to do except leave. Everything was great up until just after finishing.

  • Comments: I love the HyVee Triathlon. It was the first race I ever did, so it will always be special. The organization of the race is top-notch, and the volunteers are outstanding. Despite the T1 catastrophe, I did set a PR, and would have been probably 3 minutes faster without it. After having fully recovered from my OCD/microfracture 2 years ago, I am faster now than before my injury, which makes me happy. I think I can still get faster, though. I think 2:25 is within reach for next year.

  • Overall course based on my ability: Too hard

  • Comments: this was an amazing well organized and enjoyable triathlon. lots of swag, very well laid out course: in the water, on the bike and on the run. the transition area is too big!! but i do not think this could be avoided given the number participants. fantastic volunteers and staff!! warm encouraging atmosphere. i do have one major complaint that does not only apply to this triathlon, but to almost all that i participate in. in this case, when i finished after being on the course for about four and a half hours, i was excited to see the massage canopy and see several triathletes on tables getting treated. when i went to the sign up desk there was a sheet of paper that noted that the massage area was now closed and they were not taking anymore people. initially, i was angry because this kind of discrimination happens in one way or another at almost every triathlon that i have participated in. those who are slower triathlete and finish near the end of the race do not get the same

  • Comments: My only complaint about the whole event was they had the finish downtown at the pro finishline which was very cool, but it made it very challenging for my family to get from transition to downtown in time to see us finished. My wife didn't get to see me finish. :( I absolutely loved that we got to finish in the pro area, but logistically it stunk for my wife and kids. Also, they had a bus that took athletes from the finish line back to transition but because the roads were still blocked off they dropped us off on the other side of the lake from transition. we had to walk/run 1.5 miles from the bus dropoff back to transition. That wasn't fun an hour after you finish.
