  • Description: The Danger 1000 Ocean Swim at Torquay Front Beach, has become one of the biggest and most popular open water swims in Australia. Saturday 16th of January 2010 marked the 12th staging of the event. Results for the 2010 event are available. The 13th Danger 1000 Ocean Swim will be held at the Torquay Front Beach (Cosy Corner) on Saturday, 15th January 2011.

The event is run by the Jan Juc Surf Life Saving Club at the very calm, protected and picturesque location that the locals fondly refer to as "Cosy Corner." This idyllic setting is protected by Point Danger. The distance of the triangular course is 1000 metres hence the name Danger 1000. In 2011 over 2000 competitors are expected to compete in the event with ages ranging from 12-75.

The event provides a great day for spectators by virtue of the courses triangular nature with the start and finish being virtually at the same point. The natural amphitheatre of the grassed slopes over looking the course allow excellent viewing of the whole event. A line of mature Norfolk pines allows plenty of shade and a great spot for a picnic. "First in best dressed." Torquay is an easy drive of a little over an hour from Melbourne and plenty of free parking at the event is available.

Permanent buoys define the course year-round for those wishing to train. Prizes are awarded to 12 age group categories for both men and women as well as spot prizes being award throughout the day. Each competitor receives our now famous 'event bag' including a great fashionable shirt, swim cap, certificate and other goodies.
Our water safety and organisation is second to none with over 250 Jan Juc SLSC members volunteering their service, expertise and skill on the day.
Danger 1000 is truly a wonderful event attracting competitors from around the country including previous winner and current record holder, Australian Ironman Champion Ky Hurst of Queensland in the record time of 8 minutes 47 seconds. Good luck beating that!
