Member Question: Toe Cramping During Swimming
There are a few things you can do prevention-wise to avoid these annoying toe cramps (one of which is NOT eating tons of bananas as the common wisdom dictates!)
Member Question
Lately for my longer swims (1 - 1.5 miles) my toes cramp up about 30 minutes into the swim. I typically just flex my foot which helps, but it also causes a lot of drag. What are some options for my 1.5 mile salt water swim if I incur toe cramps. Is there anything I can do prior to swimming that might help?
Answer
This is common and happens to me every now and then. There are a few things you can do prevention-wise to avoid these annoying toe cramps (one of which is NOT eating tons of bananas as the common wisdom dictates!)
1. Do plenty of warm ups. If the water and/or weather is cold, you will be susceptible to cramping. Long warm ups can help send blood to these muscles, lessening your chance of a cramp during a race. [.....]
