I wanted a heart rate monitor that would give maximum and average heart rates as well as zone settings. This watch did it all!

I upgraded to the Forerunner 405 to get the GPS capability also which is nice to have.

First off, this is the only model in the forerunner line that is not GPS enabled. However, this device is much more than just a HRM. With optional equipment, it can measure distance, steps, and more. It can even be hooked up to a bike for bike distances and cadence. It is a much cheaper alternative to the GPS enabled models, and if you will be working out in the gym all the time anyways, or will be using predictable routes this will give you everything you need.

I will get the footpod, but I kind of wish it did a calorie burn independent of it. I want teh FP to measure paace and distance more than anything else.

This is a superb value, good looking and affordable HRM for someone who doesn't need all the bells and whistles but still wants data upload capability, running speed, distance and cadence data.
