  • Overall course based on my ability: Too hard

  • Comments: Parking was a disaster. Events started late because of it. Swim course too short. Bike course was nice, run course was pretty awesome as well although tough. Volunteers were the best I have seen at any race. Post race was slightly above average. It didn't match the hype I had heard previously about this race, but it also didn't dissapoint at all. Big thanks to my mom and stepdad for coming to the race. It is so nice to have someone there for support and encouragement. Although I wasn't violently ill and half dead like after the Full Vineman, it was nice to have people help with the post-race recovery!!! Now it is time to hire a coach and crank up my training. Next year Jan-Jun is 100% commited to tri with 20-30 hrs/wk. I want a podium at 70.3, I want Clearwater and I will get it next season.

  • Comments: I've already mentioned in a thread what I'd work on for next year, but overall I think Keith's organization is doing a good job. There were plenty of aid stations on the run(though I'd like more of them equipped with the cold towels) and they did a good job of marking cracks & problems on the bike course. There were some nice touches such as the Endurolytes at several aid stations. They have a good thing going, and if they can work on the bike/athlete transit for before/after the race then they'll be in even better shape.

  • Comments: Overall, I was very happy with this race. All times improved over last year's times (except T1, which was only a few seconds slower) and I beat last year's time by over 30 minutes. I think Keith and Endorfun put on a great race and will definitely do this race again. The volunteers are great and there is always support on the course for those of us at the back.

  • Comments: We couldn't keep our 1- and 3-year-old daughters out in that heat/dust, so we booked it out of there as soon as we could; I didn't have a chance to exploit any of the post-race offerings. Obviously, transportation was a huge issue at this event, but I'm sure that the appropriate lessons were learned and that changes will be made for next year's event.

  • Comments: As always Endorfun put on an excellent event. They handled the size/scale of the race fantastically. (grown from 900 people last year to 2000 this year). Volunteer and course support was awesome, including all the comstumed/themed aid stations. Lots of little details were covered that just made the race great for the athletes -- extra sand for swim start, very well marked bike routes and hazards, traffic control, sponges and wet towels, fully stocked aid stations, the tailgating along the course, ... (Swag note: long-sleeve technical shirt and a running hat) They did an amazing job making the race spectator-friendly, too. Vendors selling food, covered tents with tables to keep people out of the sun, bounce house and video game stations for kids. The tailgating area along the run course was awesome; there were probably 15-20 tents set up with different groups cheering for their teammates/friends. The BT tent was awesome, with more food and drink than we could consume (who

  • Comments: Fun weekend! Good times, good people, etc. etc. I was slow, but this was a training race for me. And it was a swim/bike PR. The swim was short, BTW. :) I'm not THAT fast! I haven't run that much since my surgery so I really could not expect a good run. I just wanted to test out the knee. On to IMAZ...

  • Comments: Lots of folks have noted the parking and Keith gave a great response. My observation was that the bus drivers were crazy dangerous, driving far too fast down the road pre dawn with lots (100's) of folks walking and then again later when stragglers were still out there. It was a great day. Thanks to all for sharing. Our family bought a black lab from a farm on the way home :)

  • Comments: i wanted to stick around for the awards ceremonies but i only saw the pros get there stuff... it was too hot and there was no where to sit down at out there. but on the dusty dead grass ground. and if i laid down i dont know if i would have gotten up for a while. NEXT year im going to make sure that i have a support group to go to the races with me. overall im prety excited with how i did but im just frustrated that these mess ups happen at my A race that i trained so hard for through out the whole year. If i had not had my screw ups i would have gotten 3rd place overall for Clydesdales and would have been in 307th /1821 finishers and and would have been 42/170

  • Comments: First of all, kudos to KEJ for an awesome event. Last year's little ol' experiment of less than 1000 participants was just a warm up for over 2000 this year. Hardly noticed the increase and that was good. Also, great job recognizing the parking issue and delaying the start as needed. Many thanks to all the volunteers (where did they all come from?). They were positive and worked hard to keep the sponges cold and wet and the drink cups filled. I also appreciate the cops on the streets for keeping the frustrated motorists at bay (and from doing u-turns on the course) while the massive peloton cruised by. Also have to thank Spectator Extrordinaire Tuttle for all his help before, during and after the race. When do we sign up for next year?

  • Comments: I didn't go under 6hrs but I did finish my first Half Ironman so I can't be too upset. The race was well organized and there were tons of nice people (spectators and athletes) that I met along the way. It was a great day and a great sense of accomplishment to finish out my season.

  • Comments: The race was great but I went down to Austin with a long-time friend who was supposed to race the Aquabike and bailed on me. He then had no interest in the race and made of bunch of other plans for us. So I missed out on all the Triathlon festivities and hanging with my Texas tri friends. Very disappointing. Also my sister got really sick and so she and her husband couldn't go. Bummer. Also, since I finished so late and had to visit the med tent I didn't get to meet up with other BTers after the race. Again, very disappointing.

  • Comments: Loved every bit of it, the training is so worth it when you have a great race. Now I'm bummed because my next race is not until March. After my first year doing tri I am hooked and look forward to many more races next year. See you BTers at Eagleman & IMKY Aug 09.

  • Comments: Last year I was in Iraq, had never done a tri, and only had done 2 ten-miler races and one 1/2 Marathon...I was new to BT and I loved reading the TX forums and everyone's excitement about Longhorn before and after the race. I read ALL the race reports, and I wanted to sign up AS SOON as it opened. I would end my first tri-season with the Longhorn HIM. This race didn't disappoint. Yes, some logistical issues with the growth from last year to this year requires some changes, but none of it affected my race. This race and the activities, food, hype, volunteer support, spectator support, schwag, all of it was heads and tails above what I saw at BSLT 70.3. I felt like an important athlete out there. I loved the spectators on the course, the costumes, the signs, the individually #'s racks and just the personal touches of it all. Kudos Keith and Endorfun. Doubt I'll do the full HIM next year due to it's proximity to when IMFL will be, but if my coach lets me do the Aqua Bike or something

  • Comments: This was a great race, the only negatives were the traffic jam getting to the race site that morning. Which I am sure will be fixed for next year. And the run course, not the difficulty, but the sucky surface, the dirt trails were very uneven, and some sections had large rocks, these sections of the run course were a twisted/broken ankle just waiting to happen.

  • Comments: Again, Endorfun put on a great show! Swim course was well marked with plenty of buoys to follow (and the fact that it was short was OK with me!). Bike course was well marked and the aid stations were all in the right places. There were some road issues and all but one were marked. There was one bump (not sure which road) but it was littered with water bottles and aero bottle poufies. It was like riding through a minefield. Run was challenging, but the themed aid stations were fun. Thanks for having Endourolytes at the aid stations. That was a big help. I would have loved to have finishers shirts. I would gladly forgo a shirt pre-race to get a 70.3 finishers shirt. Next year...sub 7!!
