  • Comments: What an amazing Ironman. To do my first one and finish it was sweet, but to do that and have my brother there by my side was super special.

  • Comments: Really a good race, just hotter than I could believe. I am going to do another Ironman so I can have a better PR. THis course was flat to me, but the folks from Texas all said it was really hilly??

  • Comments: Well, being this was my first IM I don't really have a lot to compare my experience to. Other than spectating at IM Arizona. I know it had been said there might be a shortage of volunteers, but I never noticed. There were tons of volunteers, all day long helping us out. With them we coldn't race, so thank you to all the volunteers!

  • Comments: I had debated not doing this race and doing Chessyman instead. It's a little over an hour away, wetsuit legal and FLAT! However, I'm glad I got to spend a weekend with so many good people. Even though I'm a little quiet (due to peple no understanding my accent!), you were all great. I would love to have had time for a few beers with Kenny, Shaun and Amy, as you guys must be the entertainment when you're out! Tammy and Sharon were great volunteering all weekend, and thanks again to Kelly and Heather (+1!). Thanks for reading this far, and I'm planning on doing another next year, just trying to decide between Chessyman or IMFL. Well done to all of you who made it on a difficult day, and to the other DNFers, our day will come!

  • Comments: My time was :30 sec. faster this year. Not much for this distance, but with everything that went south & last year everything going EXACTLY according to plan I take it as a sign that I am in better shape and my training paid off. I'll be back in a year or two to get that 12 hour finish.

  • Comments: well I've said that this was my one and only IM distance race.. Yet I've just signed up for it again next year. one the car ride back to dallas, Sydney was telling me about Nuuns, salt tablets and other electrolytes. I don't use any. ever. i'll do gatorade but that's it. so for this whole event I had two bottles of gatorade on the bike and a cup at each aid station usually. I need to look into that more since it might help me?? I think she was amazed that I had no clue about this type of stuff and never use it

  • Comments: I was very pleased with the entire weekend. The volunteers were awesome and amazing. I'll return to Louisville next year to pay-back to the sport and become a volunteer. I couldn't have done the race without the volunteers giving up their weekend for me to have some fun on raceday. My only disappointment was after the Awards Banquet they wouldn't give me my Ironman bracelet back for my scrap book. I wrote the race director and email and maybe he can make this right.

  • Comments: This was, by far, the most grueling test of endurance that I've ever pushed my body through. When I started doing triathlons, it was with the purpose of finding out where my breaking point was. How much was I willing to punish my body in the name of a sport? Today brought me the closest I have ever felt to that point, but I never crossed it. No matter how bad my day got, I was not going to quit. No matter how many times I wanted to just stop and sit down, I didn't. No matter how many times I passed EMS, I never asked for help. I was going to finish this or they were going to drag me from the course. I was out there for more than myself. I was out there for all of my friends who couldn't be. Thanks go out to Jess, Andrew, and Aaron for getting up early and keeping me sane throughout the day. Apologies go out to Jenn for being rude on the course when I was feeling cranky and all you wanted to do was show your enthusiasm. Most of all, very special gratitude is owed to two

  • Comments: 1. Foremost, this was an exceptionally well run and organized event. At both registration and bike/gear bag check-in we were assigned a volunteer that walked you through the process. I had little to no wait at either of these event. NAS could learn something from the way WTC puts on an event, just saying. 2. While the race is only 140.6, be prepared to add on a couple of miles to that. The walk to the swim start is about .75 miles. The walk from the finish to the convention center to the transition is another mile or more. Having a friend to retrieve your bags and bike and save you from the trip back to transition is invaluable. 3. I would highly recommend this is for any returning IM veteran given the challenge of this course. I will say that I am glad I had the experience of another IM going into this one given the difficulties I encountered. 4. If you are doing this as your first, make sure to have multiple contingency nutrition plans in place and now how to deal with

  • Comments: Top notch all around. Not a single complaint. Well maybe the heat but you cannot control that. I thought the football game would be an issue and it was not at all. 10 out of 10!!

  • Comments: I was completely impressed with the organization of the entire event from the initial check-in to the finish of the race. Unbelievable feeling to be able to complete my 1st Ironman in my hometown with the support of my friends and family. They were there with me throughout virtually every part of the course. When I didn't see them I would see one of the BTers that I met over the weekend. I couldn't believe how lucky I was to be surrounded by people I knew during the entire day. Many thanks to all of my friends and family that were able to be there to support me, with much love for all of you.

  • Comments: I wish things would have gone a little better for me in this race, but hell, I'm still an Ironman....Iron-Abbie!!! Thank you to all of you who cheered me on throughout training and especailly in May when my life went south. You continued to inspire me and send positive thoughts to my family, I am in awe of you. On days when IM seemed impossible you made me see that a few bad workouts did not destroy an IM dream. It has been a pleasure getting to know you and finally meet you this weekend. I remember about 3 years ago when i signed on BT, there was a post and it said, "to be a considered a triathlete, you must do at least 1 tri a year, but if you complete an IM, you are a triathlete for life". I remember thinking I'd guess I'd be doing at least 1 race a year...no way would I ever consider an IM! ha ha, ignorance! Thank you to all of the volunteers. I tried to say thank you along the course as often as possible. Without you, this race could not happen. Thank you for reading

  • Comments: An AMAZING event put on by Steve McFessel... I encourage everyone to race in an event that is put on by WTC and not by NA Sports. There is a HUGE difference.. This was a BIG deal to the people of Louisville. EVERYONE was welcoming and super hospitable- like I have never experienced before. I was treated like a ROCKSTAR by everyone for 6 days.... It seemed like the people of Louisville were well educated on this event and even my hotel room maid service knew about the distances... Everything was PERFECT!!! Volunteers like I had never seen before... They were tutored and they all had answers to any question I'd throw out... I will try and do this race again in 2010.... Almost left out my training partner.... Linda Wienants... There from day one trying to catch up to me and there at the finish line waiting for me to finish..... That sums it up. But that's not enough..... Commitments are sacred.... When one is made, it is often difficult to stick to them with all that

  • Comments: I enjoyed my first Ironman even more than Boston Marathon which I have done twice. It is truly an event. I'm not sure when I will do one again. Maybe next year? If I can get into IM Wisconsin next week online I might try it again. I know I will do two HIM's next summer here in Minnesota where I live they were great tune up races for IMLOU. The cost to do an Ironman is huge. The travel, entry fee, time commitment. In all I will call my first Ironman a success.

  • Comments: WTC puts on a good show and race. I was a little more impressed with the venue and race set-up in Madison but I still had a wonderful time in Louisville. It was a bit of a bummer not to have Mike Reilly declare me an Ironman, as Mic Mike from Europe just wasn't as good an announcer. I thought the pre-race meal and awards banquet in Madison were better, in part to Mike Reilly being a better announcer and the venue in Madison being a little more intimate and with better food. The Galt House (the official race hotel) is a very nice hotel but the crowds there made for long waits for elevators and it got very frustrating. I upgraded my room to a suite (as we had 4 adults and 2 kids) which gave us ample space and a refrigerator but required you to use your room key just to be able to push the floor on the elevator which was annoying and a pain with overcrowded elevators. If I go back to Lou, I will likely stay at another hotel to hopefully avoid some of the crowds and allow me to get a room with
