  • Comments: Would I do it again? Yes ... and soon ... but ... not ... quite yet. Next year I'll probably do the American Birkebeiner 55K XC ski race since I'm really a XC racer at my core (I've been doing it since the early 1980s), and maybe the One Day Ride Across Michigan (about 152 miles), and perhaps a couple of 1/2 IMs plus some of my favorite Olympic distance races that my wife and I enjoy doing together. Most of all, I hope to do some more volunteering at tri races, something I skipped doing this year but really missed. I would pass that along to all of you: Spend some time helping out at tris. Your experience, knowledge and enthusiasm will help others out much more than you'll know! Thanks, everyone, for taking the time to read such a long novel-like report. Tailwinds to y'all! -Todd

  • Comments: I am thrilled that I was able to participate in and complete Ironman Louisville for a second time. It was a rewarding experience from beginning to end. I am thankful for a lot of things, but particularly my family and friends who supported me from at the race and at home, and BT crew that was on hand at the race. I was inspired by all them. This was a very bare bones version of my race, I intend to provide a much more detail account for my blog and then in my book, The Road to Ironman Louisville 2011, A Man, a Journey, and 140.6 Miles of Swim, Bike, Run. I hope to have it out in the next month or so.

  • Comments: I felt great at the end of the race and still had plenty of energy left to do whatever, including running another Ironman… ok, maybe tomorrow. I stuffed down four pieces of pizza and stretched out a little while and watched some of the other finishers. It took me the rest of the night to realize my life dream of becoming an Ironman just happened that day. I never had a moment of doubt during the day that I would complete this challenge and I feel as though all my training has paid off much more than I had believed in. After my first half ironman, I told myself I’d never do another one of those and I had serious doubts about being able to one day finish a full Ironman. Now, a year and a half later, after my first Ironman, right after crossing the finish, I’m ready to sign up for the next one. I am so thankful for this sport and all I have learned and experienced from the past few years and excited to see what the next season will hold. To all those looking to becoming an Ironman, remember

  • Comments: 2450 started and 2287 finished. 163 DNF'd. 93% finished, which was really good. Sadly, one guy had a heart attack and died in the water. That led to some people being delayed getting into the water. They extended the finish time to 12:10 a.m. because of that.

  • Comments: WTC put on a great race, that finish line was absolutely amazing! If we move somewhere where there are hills and I can train on them, I will definitely be doing Ironman Louisville again.I love my experience, the town was great and the volunteers were awesome.

  • Comments: WTC did a great job with this race. Those that wonder if they should spend the money for an IM branded race I say absolutely yes. The race was well organized and the volunteers were awesome. I couldn't be happier with my experience.

  • Comments: Afterwards I reconvened w/John, parents, and friends and got some food and a massage. After getting my stuff and showering, we went to have dinner and watched the last finishers come in. All in all, I was SO impressed by how well the ATCers did. Most of them came in before their expected finish times. This seriously needs to be utilized as an ATC marketing tool. Excited to do it all again at FL… if I can get this hip thing figured out. Hopefully faster 

  • Comments: I was impressed with the quality of this race. Of course, we caught a break with the conditions, but IMO the organization rivaled that of Oceanside, Coeur d'Alene and the Boston Marathon. The bike course was beautiful and while there weren't any real monstrous hills, it certainly wasn't easy. The run course was boring at times, but at least it was flat. I would definitely do this race again and have already recommended it to friends. Of course, we found out later that the swimmer we saw taken out of the water passed away - most likely as a result of cardiac arrest and then drowning. So sad. I hope his family can find some peace. I still have not seen any official word from WTC, but I have seen some updates from Louisville online news agencies.

  • Comments: So as I sit here and type this. I have a lot of emotions. I am glad it’s over, mad at myself for not just finishing. It is taking a lot not go out and sign up for next year to make it my b***h and get it done. But right now, I just need some rest and probably some time to figure out nutritionally what went wrong.

  • Comments: Great volunteers! very organized I just wish they would have had more food options at the finish. I later learned the participant did die in the swim portion. I hope his family is able to get some peace knowing that he died doing what he loved to do because no one goes into an ironman race unless they love racing. May he rest in peace. I hope Ironman corp sends his family the race medal.

  • Comments: I'm happy here... I beat all my times from last year on the same course (and some of them quite well - even the run), but I wanted more and was physically trained for more. At this distance though.. its about more than training and I screwed up on sport #4: nutrition.

I would also like to thank the BT community. I'm not a big contributor as this sport is new to me but I certainly have appreciated all of the great tips and advice that is generously given here.

  • Comments: Craig didn’t make it. Lady who trained during the heat of the day didn’t make it. Poopy pants – that will remain a mystery. This race had the highest drop out rate in ironman history. Thank you Courtney, Shelley, Monette, North Carolina summer, Borland, salt sticks, and everyone else who supported me in this year long endeavor.
