  • Comments: Going into this race I really had my doubts about how I was going to do. This season, I somehow managed to train very little. I went out swimming less than a dozen times and probably had about 4 long rides all of which were around the 75K mark or under. I did manage to run a bit this year but again, mostly 1 hour or shorter sessions. This lack of training really showed, especially on the bike. With all of that said, I was within 1 minute of my time from last year which is pretty good. Overall, a good race, made great by fantastic weather, great crowd support and yes, a decent result all considering.

  • Comments: Incredibly great venue, great support, brilliant volunteers. During the run I said I would never do this again. 4 days later I'm thinking about next year.

  • Comments: Great race!! Everything ran really smoothly, the volunteers were great espically the kids on the run course who offered me more water even though I had a gatorade in one hand and a water in the other. I had to tell them that I didn't have anymore hands for it. One boy was having way too much fun asking athletes if they wanted to be sprayed with a garden hose and if they did, he would soak them.

  • Comments: Since this was my first HIM, I did set a PERSONAL BEST just by finishing. Next year I'll be looking to smash that time.

  • Comments: This was perhaps the best organized event I have ever attended. From the intital check in to get my race package to the end everything went smoothly. The number of people involved in setting up an event of this magnitutde is unbelievable and I will certainly be out doing some volunteering next year.

  • Comments: This is a phenomonal venue and the Canadians who volunteer are just great people - friendly, helpful, etc. The course is an ass-kicker, both the b bike and the run, but it is well worth it - just make sure to train harder next year!

  • Comments: What a great time I had at this race...loved every minute of it. Well...maybe not every minute but overall I had a blast! I loved racing in my home country and I definately felt the Canadian pride! IM did a great job with this race. It was VERY challenging and although I don't think I will do it again...I am definately glad I did it!!

  • Comments: I had a great time throughout the weekend despite the weather conditions encountered on race day. On the other hand, we were better off having warmer temperatures with the rain because if the race was to be held the next day, it would have been raining and cold. Since the race had sold out two months after it was announced, I was surprised to see that close to 400 athletes did not show up on race day. The race venue is beautiful, well organized and the volunteers and supporters were wonderful! You could feel how involved the different communities along the course were. I am toying with the idea of signing up for this race again next year and will stay closer to the race venue this time around. I have a couple of weeks to think about it.

  • Comments: My wife, daughter of almost 4 and I drove up to Deerhurst very late on a traffic congested Friday evening so the report starts on Saturday… On Saturday we strolled around Deerhurst and went through the registration process, which was super quick and painless, and went to check out the expo. This was definitely not like Lake Placid. I mean, there are some similarities but, at least for me, the charge in the air was non-existant. It was so quiet. Since we’re stayed at Deerhurst I thought it would be a hub of activity but on Saturday it certainly wasn’t which made me feel rather ho hum about the upcoming race. On Sunday morning, the day started out with just a fine mist but at about the 60K point on the bike it started to rain. By the time I got on the run course it was pouring. But at least it wasn't cold which made it much better than Placid. Okay, back to the race. The waved starts were extremely well organized and we were off without a hitch at 8:15 sharp. I was swimming well

  • Comments: Despite my slow time I loved the challenge of this race. The venue was beautiful. There were hundreds of volunteers out in the rain all day and the whole area catered to the athletes all weekend. I'm planning to do this race again next year.

  • Comments: Good race, but some issues with it. My buddy was unable to finish the swim and was not able to do the ride or run. It would have been nice for him to be able to do the other parts without a chip, especially since he had paid for the race. Tough race for a novice, but I think if you can do this race, you can do most any 1/2IM out there.
