  • Comments: This was a very nice small race. The course was beautiful, but HARD. I was 30 min slower than my usual marathon time. Organization was great. Plenty of Aid stations with hater, Heed, fruit, and gels at most of them. Fun post race party. Very good destination marathon. A nice pleasant relaxing resort town, 100 miles from the Grand Canyon. I would highly recommend it.

  • Comments: This was my first marathon, and first running race over 5K. I feel like I prepped pretty well, but should have trained on more hills. It was really an awesome race, and I smiled for the whole thing. Definitely a tough 1st FM, but I'm glad I did it. I tried to keep track of what was happening at different distances, but I forgot everything already. Basically, I ran and it hurt. I don't think I got 5 hours of energy out of that 5-hr Energy Drink. I got like 2.5. So, that was king of misleading. Luckily I also had gels with me. One more gel may have helped at the end. I wasn't sure I could stomach it though so I just kept it in my pocket. I didn't want to be 'that guy that puked at the marathon'.

  • Comments: The issues with this race were my own and not the events. I have had a great time the last several years at this event and still recommend it as a beautiful run for those that have not been to Sedona!

  • Comments: I haven't done another marathon, but I've done half marathons and HIMs. This race was very well organized and had great aid stations. The aid stations were more like buffet lines... at least 1 port-a-john at each aid station, then you had cups with water, then heed, then vitamin water, then organized piles of Hammer gels. Each aid station was set up identical, so you knew exactly what to reach for before you even got to the station. I spoke with a guy after finishing while in line for a massage that had run 27 marathons in 27 states so far (he's working on the 50 in 50). So I asked him how the difficulty of this race ranks with the other 26 he's done. He said it's definitely one of the hardest... which is exactly what I wanted for my first marathon... it should make all the others seem easier... plus, it shouldn't be hard to beat my time on the next one :)

  • Comments: I thought I packed everything, only to note that I forgot my Accelerade. After several hours and lack of customer service by the vendor, I found that Vitamin World in the oak Creek Outlets sold the product. Problem is they only sold lemonade and orange. I use lime so thought lemonade would be best. I was wrong - made it work, but my tummy was not my buddy after the race. Much puking of clear fluid told me that lime can not be forgotten in the future!

  • Comments: The race was great and I finished my first marathon. Any failings were my own and based upon lack of continuing drive. That said, I will still be there next year and think that 4.5 hours is a mark that I can hit a year later.
