  • Comments: ran out of sports drink on the bike!!! on the 56 mile bike ride not a drop of Gatorade!!! and the volunteers on the bike route near the half way mark were horrible...!!! dressed in red dresses and didn't want to be there...just horrible. made a man get off his bike to go to them because they were not going to him. i had to stop while a guy threw two bottle waters at me until i caught one. i hear the 2010 race was better equipped

  • Comments: So what did I learn? Buoys, Zipp wheels, per mile averages? Nope. I learned that I have awesome friends. From Alison offering my her tires the day before I left after I realized mine were cracking (who knew you had to check your tires? :) and for letting me drive her car all the way to New Orleans. And for Suzanne and Lisa who offered to drive with me so I wouldn't be alone. I was worried that I would be too slow for them to stay excited during the race, but they planted themselves at least 8 times on the course to cheer for me. When we were driving out of New Orleans, they asked if they could be my athletic groupies (I almost cried). You people are the B-O-M-B. Your support meant EVERYTHING to me. There are countless others who have contributed to my success and it overwhelms me every time I think of it. Special thanks to Maggie who got me to do this race and for my hero, Stephanie. So what's next? I have another half ironman next month, a sprint triathlon in June, and then

  • Comments: I would recommend a few more aid stations on the bike and more fluid for the participants. Some of the later waves ran out of fluids at the stations on the bike.

  • Comments: I thought they put on a decent race, but it was a logistic nightmare. The swim was a point to point so the start for that was a mile away from the T area. The run was also point to point, having us finish downtown. The awards/after party was a mile walk front the finish area. And the expo/registration was at another location a ways away. Also you had to pick up your bike by 6p, but no shuttles were going to/from the finish area and with the awards beginning at 4p, it was pretty tight. Aid stations on the bike were good. Though, I heard they ran out of water and Gatorade at the last stop later in the race. There were not enough aid stations on the run. Everybody agreed on that. It was nice riding on a totally closed course. They had a cop and a car blocking every single intersection that has access the course. They also reported that more police officers worked this event than Mardi Gras. Overall decent race for its first year.

  • Comments: Little disappointed right after the race, especially about the run and the swim. Looking back now (3 days after), i am pretty happy about the results. It was my first triathlon (any distance) in my life and i only started training in September '08 after all.

  • Comments: It was a bit hectic at the race briefing, the area was to small. Kind of sucked after the race to have to walk back over a mile to the hotel. Fist race I have done where you don't finish where you start, so that was sort of a pain also.

  • Comments: Awesome. This was the best half-iron/70.3 race I've ever been to. And this race had the best finish line experience of ANY race I've been to including IMFL and IMAZ. Finishing in the French Quarter was amazing. The race was well organized and well supported. The entire bike and run course was closed to car traffic. This is the only race I know of that has a closed course and it was so much nicer to ride without traffic. I highly recommend this race.

  • Comments: I'll be buzzing over this experience for awhile. I'm already planning to go back next year, it was a fantastic race in a fun city and despite my whining about winter training, it feels really good to have done an HIM already this year. Laissez les bon temps roulez!

  • Comments: Race was well run and for how many people were on the course it was surprisingly not very crowded. The aid stations 1.5mi apart on the run was a little disappointing they should have them every mile. Also, not having ice at any aid station is just wrong especially in a place like New Orleans where you never know what the temp/humidity will be. My only other recommendation would be ice sponges on the run, they had these at Longhorn and they are simply amazing! The finish line was great and I'd definitely recommend the race and who knows I might even do it again some day :)

  • Comments: I suppose one's hometown is always a great venue for a 70.3. But bias aside, I think New Orleans is a great venue. The weather could have been better but it could have been worse too. Given the weather conditions and the unexpected foot injury, I was satisfied to finish in 6:25:04 and establish a PR.

  • Comments: The racecourse was completely closed. BIKE AND RUN. This was one of the safest most organized courses I’ve EVER raced on and I was a little worried about that. EVERY road had an officer at it blocking traffic. PEM deserves a A+++ for their logistics in planning this race and supporting it with cops at EVERY road crossing. THANK YOU Premier Event management.

  • Comments: Really happy with the race over all, especially as it was my first HIM. The support along the course from the locals was amazing, especially appreciated the people with their water hoses and sprinklers out during the run. The finish running into the quarter and then along decateur was great. Will most likely do this again next year.

  • Comments: About the only thing lacking was ice. The drinks were cool, not cold. Other than that, the entire thing ran flawlessly outside of the weather. I really enjoyed getting back to New Orleans, and I had a damn good time doing this race. Oh, and greatest finish chute EVER. It was slammed with people like you were doing a Tour de France mountain stage. High fiving everybody, cheers coming from everywhere... just an incredible energy in a really cool spot. I mean, you had the St. Louis cathedral looming to the right, the French Market on the left, and people EVERYWHERE! The last .3 miles made the pain of the first 70 disappear. (that pain came back that night though:))

  • Comments: The venue was incredible. Coming into Bourbon Street with that many people still gives me chill bumps. Even with the physical difficulty I am really glad I did this race. Hard as heck but made it that much better at the end. Free beer at the post race awards party helped too.

  • Comments: I have completed 2 full Iron distance, several ½ distance (one of them an inaugural event). I would rate the race course itself as a 6 to 7 overall. The swim was point to point with some confusing wave starts but not horrible. A very long wait for the second half of the waves ain’t a lot of fun but not a big deal. The final turn into the exit was staffed Wet suit strippers for a ½ was a first for me but very appreciated. A carpeted path to the coral was also a nice touch. T-1 had water canisters at the exit but no cups or volunteers, just sort of a cluster around the water cooler –again no big deal just something. The bike course was great – tons of safety people. I have never felt in danger at any US course I have raced but this was almost as secure as a military base. This was a great job by those who put the bike course together and to those who made it safe. T-2 was quick and I needed to make a quick pit stop and it was a tough stop – the pit was full and I thank the stats I was
