  • Comments: What a day. It was a very different experience than 2006. Between the weather and the fact that I was pushing harder than I did last time, this felt like more of a real test of my limits, both mentally and physically. I pushed and fought my way through today, and even though I didn't meet my ideal goal for this race (sub-11 hours), I'm thrilled with the result. I beat every time from 2006, and it feels like the work and sacrifice that I put in this year was all worth it. Thanks to everyone who supported me, from my wife, girls, and all my family, to training partners, to all the people on BT that inspired me both online and in-person. So the final breakdown (2008 vs. 2006): Swim: 1:14:11 vs. 1:19:49 T1: 5:57 vs. 8:59 Bike: 6:04:28 vs. 6:17:12 T2: 2:52 vs. 4:22 Run: 3:48:31 vs. 3:59:51 Total: 11:15:57 vs. 11:50:11 Age Group Rank: 72/387 vs. 120/279 Overall: 365/2345 vs. 614/2156

  • Comments: The post race food was practically non existent. I managed to grab one of the last slices of pizza and when I went back for another or something else there was practically nothing left. I would have been better off going to one of the aid stations! This was the only let down in a fabulous day

  • Comments: Hey, this is an Ironman :) All other races are measured against the spectacle and grandeur of these races. They are always very well put together and NA Sports is a top notch Host. This is my 2nd Ironman Event and will definitely be doing more of them. (IMCal 2008 and IMCdA 2008 to be sure)

  • Comments: I just want to thank everyone of the volunteers that I did not get to thank personally that day. without them the race really could not go on. Also I want to Thank Amie, Mom, Jill, Grandma, and Grandpa for all the support. I know that was a long day getting up with me at about 3:30 am and staying at the race all night. Every lap that I went past any one of you it brought my spirits up. Most of all Amie, when you came to "pace" my walk towards the end it was great. During the race I said never again, and even the day after but the truth is I am chomping at the bit to get back and race another Ironman. Maybe in a few years but def again, but everyone knew that I was full of it anyway when I said that was it ;)

  • Comments: The spectators and volunteers at IMLP are the BEST! I love Lake Placid and I was so glad to have the support of so many out on the course and as spectators. This was one of the hardest things I have ever done. I am so glad that I found a way to finish. And I know that someday I will come back to an IM distance race because I have so much room to improve... But for now its time for the short tris that I love!

  • Comments: Some of the stuff around the race could be done better (or at least communicated better). But NA Sports puts on a fabulous race-day production. And the volunteers were as amazing as I had heard in stories. The crowd support is also great at LP, especially for large chunks of the run. I would most certainly come back here again if I decide to do another IM one day.

  • Comments: Because of the terrain in the Adirondacks, it was easy to let this course break me. To try to predict at any moment where I'd be in an hour would be too much since my speed/pace varied so much from the terrain, and watching myself perhaps miss targets could make me break. I just let the course come to me and stayed in the present and not worry about the upcoming hills I had to ride or run over. That was to be dealt with when the time came. So now I have to go take care of things I've left undone over the last year and a half, starting with painting the shed outside. Pictures to be posted soon!

  • Comments: Fantastic race, town to complete my first IM. The whole IM atmosphere is unbelievable and impossible to not get caught up in. The family had a great time and particulary enjoyed volunteering at the aid station. It is a fair but challenging course. Patience is the name of the game here. Let the course come to you and don't get caught up in what others may be doing. Far to many people hammered the bike only to blow up on the run. I was amazed to see how many people were walking so early into the marathon. Can't even guestimate how many people I past on the run. The volunteer and spectator support is unbelievable. I wore my number that had my first name on it and was glad I did. Volunteers and spectators offering personal encouragement calling out your name. Really moving. Easy to understand why this race is so popular. I'm looking forward to being on the other side next year jocking for folks and volunteering before making my return in 2009!

  • Comments: I gave this a 5 rating because it was the best supported race I've been to but I was disappointed in some parts of the race. With the cost of this race, you expect Rolls Royce service but some things didn't measure up. The food at the athletes dinner was bad, the after race food was non-existent and the transition area was too crowded. This was the organizers fault not the volunteers. The town and volunteers were awesome. Everyone worked hard and were very friendly. As I've said before LP is triathlete Mecca. Overall this was a great race. I had fun, I beat my goals and I have lifetime bragging rights. What more could you ask for? I'm not sure if I'll do another IM because of the time committments but I'm glad I did this one.

  • Comments: This was just an unbelievable experience- this is a dream I've had for many years but never thought I would actually accomplish. Even though my expectations were high coming in, they were exceeded in every way. Even though I only occasionally post comments on BT, I am a very frequent visitor and have learned a ton from some really great people here. The advice and support I have experienced here have been crucial to getting me to the finish line of my first Ironman, and it meant a lot just to know that so many people were following progress online. I wish I had the chance to meet folks in LP but family commitments were pretty tight- I will certainly do a better job of this in future races. Thanks!!

  • Comments: I think this is a fair course but if you slip it WILL break you. The second time around this course should be better cause now I know what I need to do. The Volunteers were unbelievable so great and helpful...The spectators were also amazing those two groups make the race. I have never experienced anything like it before. Despite never wanting to do an IM again on Sunday night I realize I have some unfinished business in LP and will return in 2009 to exact my revenge. This time I am finishing in the day light with time to spare! I have 2 years to prepare and that is my plan so look out LP the return of the Riff Raff is coming. Thanks for reading

  • Comments: What a kick ass experience! Next year I'll be better prepared but still I had an outstanding time. The course is beautiful, the town and it's people were great. There were volunteers everywhere. Aid stations were well stocked with people and stuff. On the run it seemed like aid stations were about every 1/2 mile. it was great. I can't say enough. It was outstanding! Next year will be even more fun since 4 of my tri buddies and I are registered for next year!

  • Comments: IM USA is awesome. course is tough at parts, but i love the bike loop and the swim is great. spectators and volounteers are amazing. without them none of this would be possible. the town of placid is great as well. i would move there in a second.
