  • Comments: Bring your A game-this venue is challenging with a hilly bike and run. It is beautiful and I've stayed at some great hotels for this race. Lots of support along the course and it truly is an iconic race.

  • Comments: I didn't follow my nutrition and hydration plan and blew the high. I did not expect the high humidity and heat in the valley, and that along with my poor execution, caused a DNF.

  • Comments: What can I say? IM LP is a beautiful venue. Very well organized tried and tru event. LP course is without a doubt the toughest race course I have ever encountered. I am disappointed in my performance this year but I think my preparation could have been better. At times my heart was not in the training. I definitely did not diet well and raced this race 15 lbs heavier than I did 3 years before. I feel like I still have better Ironman races in me. I also think I need to change up my training a bit as it is getting boring and stale. I also think I need to seriously work on diet and nutrtion and weight a lot more before I attempt Ironman. Next year will be spent restructuring my training, working on better pre-race nutrtion, losing weight to race at a more healthier body weight, and most likely focusing on shorter distance events. I had contemplated retirement from triathlon after this event. After this race I know I need to take some time off...but I am not retiring or leaving...I have

  • Comments: I want to go back next year, but not sure if my calendar will support it. I want redemption, but also really enjoyed the venue. Love Emma's Ice Cream. Prefer to cook meals, but the restaraunts were good, although a tad pricey when feeding 4. We departed Lake Placid on Wed. morning with everyone's luggage in tow and had a great rest of vacation.

  • Comments: Very nice race. Volunteers are amazing. I could've done without the sun! Let me just say that it's a real bummer winning the Kona slot and having to give it up.

  • Comments: My 1st Ironman is in the books..My thoughts? The training was not as difficult as I expected it to be. Don't get me wrong I had the moments of being tired, but not to the point everyone stressed over. I wonder if this is due to keeping the family first and having a few times when their schedule prevented a few workouts. There were not many of these, but it did always seem to fall during a peak period. Overall it did not affect the final outcome so that it is good. The race itself was fantastic, I managed myself throughout the day and stuck with my motto of being in the moment. All I could control was what was happening at the single moment and the past was done and all I could do was prepare for the next step. I made a point of enjoying the day and not stressing through which probably helped in the overall results. Now I need to figure out my next!!

  • Comments: Thank you to the organizers, the police and medical personnel, the town and all the people in Lake Placid who were out supporting the participants. The town embraces this event and support is overwhelming and amazing. Also a big thank you to the volunteers. They were awesome and are a big part of why the race is so great. Thank you to my wife Joyce and my three children Kayla, Erynn and Austin for their understanding and support. Without them getting behind me I’d not be able to do this. I’m very thankful and grateful to have had the opportunity to do Lake Placid this year. I love you all. Thank you Asphalt Junkies! You guys all rock and I can’t tell you how much I appreciate your support and you all following Matt and I this past Sunday. I love you guys. Thank you again to the Wildwood Warriors. It was an honor to represent at IMLP on your behalf. This is an amazing group of Long Island athletes and awesome group of people. I love this group. Thank you to my training partners

  • Comments: I thought I would be emotional when I crossed the finish line. I thought I wanted Mike Reilly to call out my name. Instead, I flew through the finisher chute because my only thought was to hold and kiss my fiance who was waiting for me. It was an amazing experience. The volunteers were amazing. The energy of the crowds was electric. I could not have asked for a better race experience. This was my first and probably only full distance race. I will be a "one and done" type Ironman.

  • Comments: This is a great race. I'd highly recommend it to anyone. I was blessed by so many people helping me along this training block. Having the Cyclonauts to swim and ride with was exceptional. Having Bobby (DreamChaser,) go through the Rev 3 full revolution and IMLP was just terrific. He is a good friend, even though we haven't spent nearly enough time to hang out and just talk about life. *edited to add pics This year, my older son Mike drove a million miles from Philly just to see the race. Very special. And my wife is beyond praise with her never ending support and patience listening to me whine about everything triathlon related. I love my family lots. http://www.ironman.com/triathlon/events/americas/ironman/lake-placi...

  • Comments: Great race and area but not as good as prior years - 2009 and 2013. A few problems were lack of bathrooms at race start, single narrow row of carpet from swim to transition area and road conditions on 9N out and back to Au Sable Forks. Although Au Sable 9N road section recently repaired, it really needed to be repaved. Road the 2009 races' old Black Brook out and back and road conditions were much better plus less traffic for practice rides. On swim had to wait too long a time prior to swim start because of lack of bathrooms and got stuck in back of pack because race area was already full. Waited over an hour for a bathroom. I also liked the original mass swim start better since the area for line up or open water start was bigger. Current swim start area is too small for 3000 people. Still this is a great race and a must do.

  • Comments: Lake Placid is so special to me. It was my first IM in 2006 where I vowed I was "one and done". And it was where Brad and I completed lucky #13, the final check mark off of the to do list on our way to Kona 2016. My favorite race experience to date is being able to run half of the run course with Brad. Lake Placid 2015 did not disappoint. 2006 vs. 2015 Swim: 1:10.46 vs. 1:07.02 T1: 11:08 vs. 7:30 Bike: 8:38.06 vs. 7:34.06 T2: 5:26 vs. 6:51 Run: 6:22.47 vs. 5:07.46 Total: 16:28.11 vs. 14:03.15

  • Comments: Training was really a struggle with a pregnant wife and two small kids. Then my mother-in-law was hospitalized during the peak training weeks. I just didn't get enough training in to really be where I like to be in these races. It was kind of a miracle I made it at all so overall I'm happy with the results.
