  • Comments: I loved this race. Great first Ironman. A tough but fair course. Practice riding hills. It's not easy. Beautiful, stunning and pristine race course. My family had a great time cheering on everyone. The goodie bag leaves plenty to be desired, especially considering the price tag. Otherwise, I recommend volunteering in the transition area before you do the race, because it's a great way to learn about how the race works and what people do. Awesome race, I loved it.

  • Comments: IMLP is a great race, and although I think the swim is manageable with 3.5K+ participants, the bike course is not. I hope WTC limits the field in future years to no more than we had in 2010 as otherwise the first loop draft fest and real probability of a big multi rider crash on Keene will cast a shadow over what is otherwise a brilliant race.

  • Comments: Lake Placid is a great race, great town, great atmosphere. Really by far the nicest race I've done. Be prepared to spend lots of money though.

  • Comments: Awesome race and an incredible experience. I started racing 5 years ago and struggled to do a very short sprint. It is really hard to believe the same guy just did an IM. It truly is amazing what we can do when we put our minds to it. Train hard, believe in yourself and stay positive! I also am so happy I resisted my usual "do it yourself" mentality and actually opted for a coach. If I had to identify one thing that made the difference that would have to be it. I also was blessed to have a very supportive wife and kids who gave up a lot to let me chase this dream. I hope watching the process from beginning to end taught my boys something that they will always remember....

  • Comments: IMLP is a great race. The volunteers are the very best that I've ever been around. The course is beautiful. The spectators cheer themselves hoarse. And I love love love the Adirondacks. That said, I won't do this race again for a long time. There are so many other IM courses out there that I'd love to do, especially the local, non Ironman branded ones that I can't see myself doing this again. Being my first IM, the big show/spectacle was pretty cool. But I don't need it to enjoy my race. Fini.

  • Comments: I have re-written this race report in my head, and then on my laptop, so many times. Something inside of me is compelled to try to capture the personal significance of the event, but I’ve quickly realized that task is impossible for most ironman finishers. So many of us recognize the race as a stopping point on a journey that is much bigger than 140.6 miles, and I’ve come to realize that my ironman journey was very unique – just like everyone else’s. Capturing the significance of the event, then, would require a full autobiography that can’t be written yet… it’s incomplete and I’m not emotionally prepared, yet, to go there. I even tried to write it like a series of fragmented snapshots. While all the connections weren’t explicit, I had hoped that together – as a collage – they’d let you enter into my journey and understand something of how crossing that line was meaningful and transformational

  • Comments: There were 3500 volunteers for 2600 athletes. That is why you pay the money. They were amazing!!! Thank you!!! Incredible event, incredible support, incredible scenery. I just loved every minute of it. If you get the chance, ride the course in training- that saved my race. I went out like a rockstar on my first loop of a training ride and realized that this course just shows no mercy to 1 loop wonders- both biking and running. Pacing is key for an IM, and even more important for this challenging course. Oh, and I love Lake Placid!!!

  • Comments: I see what all the hype for Ironman races is about. This was a tremendous experience that I will never forget. The level of energy around this race, from fellow racers, the volunteers and the spectators is amazing. The volunteers really make this race something special with the effort that they put in to treat even the most average age grouper as someone special. The cheering from the spectators really pulls out the highest performance from the racers. I still can't believe that I finished an Ironman and how great an experience it really was.

  • Comments: Lake Placid is a special place for me. We do vacation weekends there as often as possible and there is no better place for cycling in my opinion. I think the race is outstanding, but I don't think it has the same spirit of fun and energy that IMWI does. We'll see how I feel the second time around in WI, perhaps it was first-time IM excitement and not the venue. I'll reserve my pick for the best until after September 12 :) Overall I was thrilled. If this race were a month or two later I'd likely do it yearly, but I just don't have the discipline to train for an IM in February!

  • Comments: What can I say it's an Ironman! But the swim isn't really a competitive swim anymore for anyone but the fasties out front. Think they need to do something about that - even if they set men and women off separately maybe?

  • Comments: Small complaints...post race feast wasnt the best, but I wasnt too sure how much I could have eaten anyways. There were just too many darn people on this course, period. The swim was fun, but really rough, and the bike was just too congested to be safe (there were multiple crashes, I know). WTC really needs to limit the amount of people in this race. BUT....overall...AMAZING day!! Amazing volunteers, amazing crowd support, amazing amazing! My first Ironman...i will NEVER forget this day!!!

  • Comments: I said this would be my last IM for a while and it probably still will be as they just take too much time away from the family to train properly. That said, during the car ride back to the house I told my wife that I think I could do a 10:XX next time! It really is addictive! Did not sign up for next year. Maybe 2012 or 13. We shall see. I do love this area and the family and I stayed up here for 5 days after the race enjoying all that it has to offer. Whiteface on Monday, Ausable Chasm on Tuesday, swimming on Wednesday, and just hanging out in town on Thursday. We would sit on the back deck and have an outdoor fire everynight making smores! I owed them this kind of family time for all the support they gave me during the past 12 months. I owe them much more than that of course! One last huge thank you to all the volunteers out there and the community of Lake Placid for letting us race in your beautiful part of the country!

  • Comments: Of the Ironman races I've done, this one ranks up as one of the top. It's a tougher course, but it was well put on. If the roads down to Keene and up the gorge were a little nicer, I'd rank this as the top ( well, after Kona of course ). A ton of BTers and other friends were also racing, so it was great to see them all: Andy, Jay, and Jeff from "The Show" ( Andy KQ'ed! ) Chris and D'Arcy from Team Ethos ( D'Arcy KQ'ed! ) Marvarnett, PennState, Tasr, Papson14, Yeats, Jazznumbers, WittyCityGirl, SwishySkirt, LazyMarathoner (and Mark), and all of the other BTers whom I met but whose names have slipped from my faulty memory. Seeing so many people out there that I knew was a huge boost all day long. Congrats to all the KQs and to every racer out there on race day, and most especially to all the BTers who came up to volunteer and cheer everyone on! And of course, the most thanks goes to Laura, for supporting and encouraging me all along the way and being a constant presence on

  • Comments: IMLP is amazing. Even though my hometown is so close I had never been home to see it. The scenery is amazing and the crowds are awesome. More than anything the volunteers are just wonderful. I tried to thank as many as I could and I hope they know how much they helped. I know some of them wil find out when they come back to do IMLP 2011. I hope to volunteer and give back some of that energy. I won't be racing due to military obligations, but I hope to again in the future.

  • Comments: Between family and friends that were physically here and those that were sending me text messages, phone calls, notes on facebook, emails and everything else, the 3500 race volunteers, the thousands of spectators that lined all 140 miles of the course, and the other racers - this race was one of the most supportive, positive, inspiring environments and races I have EVER been in. I could literally feel all the positive energy that everyone of those people was sending my way and it made the difference. This was a day that will definitely go down as one of the most memorable in my life. I can't thank everyone enough that helped make it a wonderful experience. Watch out LP. I'm coming back next year to see if this was just a fluke or if I really am on to something here!

  • Comments: What a day! I toed the line with a real and honest assessment of what my fitness was and what I needed to do to finish the race. I merely needed to pay attention to my body and execute. I did to a T. In the days leading in, I figured that maybe I'd go sub 14 and beat the sunset. If I hadn't spent time on sunscreen, stopping to help a friend, or stopping to say hi to those who went out of their way to support me, I'd have been there. I wouldn't trade any of those minutes. I know this was long, but so is Ironman. Congrats if you got this far. My one piece of advice for any first timer looking for some: be honest with yourself and the amount of time you have for training. Unless there is a drastic and concrete change in your life or you really do have that much free time in your schedule, don't expect it to magically appear. There are only so many hours in a day and there are many more commitments in life more important than a race. The pressure of a race is all self-imposed

  • Comments: I felt good when I finished, and my coach ran over and she was going nuts, "Dude, you nailed it!!" She laid out a great plan, which at first I told her was too conservative. But it was dead on. They walked me over to the food tent, were I had some old pizza, then all of a sudden my whole body became very tingly, and it started to get much more intense. I stayed on my feet as I didn't want to sit down just yet, and after 10 minutes it didn't go away and kept getting more intense. I must have looked pretty bad because a volunteer came over to me and asked me if something was wrong. I told her the sensations I was having, and she said, "Let's go to med." Nothing exciting here, standard routine and after an hour I was limping back to the hotel. Well, except when my bud Matt K. got the bed right next to me, and one of the nurses spilled hot broth all over his boys. Matt is a riot and he made the best of the situation and got a bunch of good laughs out of it. I had an absolute

  • Comments: I felt like I was well taken care of on the course. To each and every volunteer- you are an amazing person and thank you for being there for me. I know we all had a long day on 7/25, but you don't know how much it means to an athlete to have honest to goodness kind people being there and helping. Thank you, thank you, thank you. A note to IM newbies prepping for next year... This is not a race for "stuff". If you want SWAG then go do Musselman. At the finish line we got a t-shirt, medal and hat. I think I waited at least a half hour for one slice of pizza. They ONLY had ham subs (huh?? vegetarians like myself were scratching our heads), pizza, pretzels, fruit, water, coke.... it wasn't an all-you-can-eat buffet by any means. This is a race for the experience. Do the training. Don't make excuses to not train, but train smart. Keep smiling after you cross the timing mat. My photo-finish looks like I'm ready to look for another port-o-potty. Ha! Don't let anyone

  • Comments: Glad I got an IM completed. Now know what they're about. What a cool event! If I do another, i'll shoot to break 12 hrs. Just wanted to be SURE to not BONK on this one and ran right on my numbers all day. Finished feeling good with no physical issues either...Just a little slow.
