  • Comments: This is a HUGE race to put on. The support from cops was incredible, TONS of volunteers, and a fun event. It is expensive, so I'll do it again, but not every year. There are also a lot of small organizational things that they can do much better (i.e., go to Kinko's, spend $20 and have signs with "Olympic" and "Sprint" and arrows made. Relying on vounteers to orally tell Oly racers about an out and back on the bike resulted in some pros missing it altogether)

  • Comments: The time is 2 minutes faster than last year. Slower by 4 minutes on the swim, but faster by 4 minutes on the bike and 2 on the run. The race was well run the aid stations were stocked, check in the day before was easy and I found the race to be well organized. There were some positive changes from last year, like having the portapotties located inside T1. However, there were some negatives that it would be good to fix. The biggest of which was the lack of food at the post-race table. In previous years they had far more stuff like bars and plenty of drinks and cookies and so forth. This year they had water and some fruit and not much more, while they had gatorade when I finished there was no gatorade by the time Mike finished. Ideally they would have enough so that the later waves would also have a well stocked finish line. I would also make sure to instruct the bike only participants on their obligation to stay to the right so that faster cyclists can pass. There were

  • Comments: So considering the amount that I train (about 2 - 3 hours a week on average), I did fine, but still It was disappointing. I went slower this year by about 45 seconds. My sprint race in Arrowhead (at altitude) a few weeks ago was very strong. I finished in the top 1/3 of my agegroup. This race I was probably 60% percentile (as in bottom 50%), or so. Better transitions would have made it faster. Plus the swim really knocked me for a loop. Literally. I am happy with my increase in bike speed but need more. Overall It's still a great race, and I enjoyed it. The massages are awesome at the end. A lifesaver. I'll be back. Also, I'm thinking about doing the Bonelli Park Oly. to see if I can redeem myself in a lake swim.

  • Comments: Well, this was my first major triathlon so it is hard to rate. But knowing the logistics of Los Angeles, it was pretty incredible. Tons of policemen and traffic officers. It was incredible to ride down major intersections with no traffic. I was pretty beat after but it was fun to shatter my expected time.

  • Comments: Great race. They could of used a few more volunteers at finish and the construction of start and finish and transition was a little hampered by construttion. But overall it is such a fun race. Riding the closed streets are cool, starting at venice is neat and the run thru downtown with all the sights, way cool. Can't wait til next year.

  • Comments: They really fixed some things about this race that were annoying. One thing they didn't fix which was VERY annoying is not having bathrooms in the T1 area. There is nothing more annoying than having to stand in huge twenty minute line with spectators thirty minutes before the race to go to the bathroom. Don't need that stress. FIX IT!!!

  • Comments: I am extremely happy with the race. I dropped just under a half an hour off my time from last year of 3:04 (which was my first ever triathlon). The course was essentially identical. From the results it would seem I am doing the right things I just need to keep working on them.

  • Comments: I have only competed in local sprint tris before. This event was PRO. Evertything done right. Started on time, course well volunteered and marked. Interesting fun race through LA w/ no traffic. Tons of food and drink on and off course. Free massages and beer garden worth the somewhat steep price of entry fee. Shuttle back to venice beach from downtown was easier more efficient than I expected. Could be slightly better w/more bathrooms at race start, more rack space for my age group in T1. Mandatory packet pick-up the day before in downtown was a hassle. Overall great first Olympic distance tri.
