  • Events on time?

  • Lots of volunteers to help?
  • Plenty of drink stations?

  • Post race activities?
  • Overall course based on my ability: Just right

  • Comments: I think I've ranted enough about this race already - if you're interested read the whole race report. There were a lot of things I'd change if I were running this race (start earlier, have more drinks for the bike (I heard they actually ran out on the second loop), have a little more variety @ aid stations on the run. But that being said, I think the main detractor of this race was the heat. And it's not like you can really control that, but the first week of August is pretty much always the hottest of the year here, so I guess it's to be expected. I had a fun time at the race, but mostly because I got to hang out with Lisa and Kristen. I really like the distance of this race, and I expect it will go smoother next year (this is the inagural year after all), but I don't know if I'll do it again or not. Just too darn hot this time of year.

  • Comments: This could be a nice race, I'll cut them a bunch of slack for the inaugural year but here's a few things that need to be improved: Prerace information: 3 bike course updates in the last week, 2 in the same day, maps never did match actual course. No transition map, no parking map. Start times at 8 am for the sprint and 8:30 for the long. I appreciate the reasoning to clear the short course bike turnaround before the long course gets there but there's got to be a better way. Packet pickup the morning of the race only, that's gonna be a lot of bikes laying around the pickup tent if the race grows. Water stations on the bike, if you're gonna advertise water on the bike make sure it is sufficient to support the course distance and number of racers. I suppose a lot of this was left loose to allow race-day adjustments for unexpected circumstances and is just a minor annoyance from a planning perspective since they had generally adequate signage, but the start time and bike

  • Comments: It was the first year. I was uncomfortable with the lack of transition control. to many people in and out. The bike distance was longer than we were told. Need more fluids on the bike course. The race does need to start earlier. 8:45 is LATE. Post race activity just not much. I like the prizes given out. I'm going to work harder and getting something next year. My times were lost but the next day they quickly got them for me.

  • Overall course based on my ability: Too hard

  • Comments: love the race and distance but only one drink station on a 20 mile loop seem light to me and others. no pre-race meeting to explain the transition entry and exits at all. I will consider this agan next year and hope to be better prepared.

  • Comments: I know it was the first year for this race and they probably learned some lessons, but here are my suggestions. First and foremost, start the race earlier. If you're going to be racing 53 miles in August in Kansas, you can not have waves starting as late as 8:45 a.m. I will not do this race again unless they move the start time up drastically. 1 aid station for 42 miles of biking is NOT ENOUGH. I imagine with the course being 2 loops we were supposed to be able to use it 2 times, but by the time I passed it the 2nd time it was shut down. Fail. The bike aid station needs more than simply water. HEED is not an acceptable sports drink, at least not to me. I literally gag on it, so could only drink water on the run.
