  • Comments: Well we wanted to finish and that's how I ran my race, Hand in hand with Monica and a smile on my face. I have to thank so many a friend, But let's face it, I'll forget someone in the end. So I'll just leave it, and say thank you all so so so much I will NOT be doing another one. Nope never again. And such. Mostly, though, I am so proud of my wife, The toughest, baddest-ass, strongest person in my life. She forced me sometimes at 5, for heaven's sake! And we all know how much I hate to awake. We made it through the journey, and that was the key, And finished together, just you and me.

  • Comments: This race is known for having the best spectators and volunteers around...I couldn't imagine a race being any better from a racer's standpoint. Sure, it's the same drab scenery that I've trained in for years, but it's my home turf and I loved every minute of it.

  • Comments: Liked everything about this race. Again I can not say enough about the volunteers and the organization of the event, everything I was involved with went off with out any problems. I would recomend this race for any first timer, although it is tough to get in unless you volunteer the prior year.

  • Comments: EXCELLENT race. I can't imagine that there's a better venue for an Ironman race. WTC does a bang-up job of putting these races together, and as expensive as they are, I always feel like I get my money's worth. A very fine product IMO

  • Comments: I had done an WTC Ironman 70.3 before and it was fantastic, but moving to the full Ironman is a whole different animal. 1. Pre-race bike and gear check in - This was huge to have everything checked in by 3:00 PM the day before. It was so nice that evening before to know that all of the gear was there and I was not trying to figure out what else to pack. 2. Volunteer assistance - The volunteers were amazing, they would help with your bags and when you were done they took them and reorganized. When I finished the bike, they took my bike and put it back on the rack. That was so nice not to take those additional steps. During the bike I stopped for a bathroom break and they held my bike, got water loaded on. Just wonderful. 3. The pre-race meeting/dinner - This was 2 hours of pure inspiration. Lots of good laughs and food to help ease the nerves.

  • Comments: While I didn't come in under 12 hours it was still a 31 minute PR, I'm happy with that. They always put on a great show and this race was no different. I think this will be my last IM for awhile, it just takes up so much of your life, but the whole thing was a great experience. I was lucky to have some of my best friends to train with and my wife to support me during the long summer of endless bike rides and runs. Like usual the AZ Tri Clubs folks were great out there, they had an awesome cheering section that kept me going!

  • Comments: This was my best IM race to date. Overall very pleased with my performance. The volunteers were awesome. Race support was superb. Crowds were terrific. So far this is my favorite IM venue. Unlike other IM's, it was nice to not have to worry about car traffic at all on the bike. The 3 loop course was fun. There were times I was nervous on the bike seeing people ride so closely together on the return loops. I enjoyed seeing the pro's on the course. My only real disappointment was my chip stopped registering times after 10 miles on the run (I did not know this till after the race). I stopped by the event tent afterward. They told me "the chip battery must have died". I did not know they had batteries?? Anyway, they did verify my finish time but I do not have the rest of my run splits. Not much I can do about that. I signed up to do this next year and I'm really looking forward to it.

  • Comments: This is a great race. Incredibly organized. Volunteers were the best. Tempe is a nice town to visit in the time leading up to the race. I enjoyed this tremendously as a first Ironman. I knew I wanted my first shot at this distance to be a WTC event, and I was not disappointed. The next day, went to buy some finisher gear and watched the awards presentation. My girls have always like TJ Tollakson and we saw him and got a picture with him. He was really nice, so that was a great topper on the cake.

  • Comments: I'm sure this report sounds bad, but in retrospect I am happy with my race. Kelly is the greatest race Sherpa ever and provided me with a lot of insight and perspective. Despite a terrible run I still managed to PR the distance. I'm pretty sure I was coming down with something race day and am currently sick as I write this report. I'm going to put IM on hold for a few years and possibly longer. I think I just need a break after doing an IM 4 of the last 5 years. Great race, venue and support.

  • Comments: I love the volunteers. Love love love them. They were fantastic. Also- feel like the race was well organized, though I couldn't find my special needs bags the next day (oh well) and waiting in line for finisher merchandise took for-ev-er.

  • Comments: Great day and a great experience for my first IM. I'll continue the sport somewhere down the line if i'm ever lucky enough to gain entry. Back to Trail Ultra's for me for a while. What I learned - 1)AZ is a beginner friendly course; 2)I had bike envy the first couple days fo the event, but I quickly learned that the most expensive bike, gear, wheels and race helmet wont make you a good IMer. My entry level Tri bike and stock wheels did just fine. 3) Stick to your script; My goal going in was to have a slow, safe swim; hold back a bit on the bike, and run the whole marathon. 4) Ironman puts on a damn good event.

  • Comments: Overall this race and experience exceeded my expectations. And I had set them quite high considering the reputation of the event and the IM brand. The Ironman Village experience was great, the layout and all the exhibitors' booths, and the vibe everywhere I went was excellent. Even the onsite IM store was easy, I went there twice and there was not a long line or anything! Didn't go the morning after for finisher's gear, so I can't say how bad that was. Once I am able to wrap my mind around the idea of doing another IM, I would certainly consider this race again. Thanks for reading this long report, if you're considering this race or already signed up feel free to PM me with any questions!

  • Comments: The volunteers and the crowds were absolutely amazing! You feel like a rock star out there as your first name is on your bib and everyone cheers for you by name. There just seems to be a collective effort out there to help you through this race, to see everyone finish as an Ironman. Thank you, thank you, thank you: my wife Erica and kids for patience, support, and understanding. Friends, family and co-workers for the words of encouragement. Brother Kevin and his family for accomodating us in Arizona and then stepping up when plans changed race day.

  • Comments: the most disappointing aspect of the race is that there are zero pictures of me at the end. they extra had me get in front of the sign to show my medal, but no picture. sad. my first IM ever and nothing to commemorate. on the full course itself, there were maybe three pictures, and only far off glimpses. double sad. lesson learned -- if you want pictures from on course photographers, you better move a little faster so you aren't out there when they are sick of taking pics and/or moved to get the fast people in the pics. bugger. the race was surreal, although I did not feel victorious finishing. maybe my brain was frozen from a day of freezing?

  • Comments: I learned a lot about my ability to work at a consistently strong pace at this distance, where in the past I was more concerned with taking in the whole experience and making sure I had the strength to finish. I’m sure my time will drop again at IMLP next year as I head back to the hills, but I’m hoping that my effort here has shown me I don’t need to pace myself quite so much. I can and should go out strong from the beginning. With a few finishes behind me I have more to lose by holding back than by taking a chance on going out too strong and blowing up.

  • Comments: My first year of triathlon and only started running march of 2010. I raced two olys one 70.3 and IMAZ. I wouldn't necessarily advocate for that plan but it worked out. I improved all year long never had an injury and had a blast along the way. Looking at 2013 for my return to IMAZ. Lots to learn along the way. I'm HOOKED

  • Comments: Once upon a time, in 1982, a young man watched Wide World of Sports and saw a woman named Julie Moss lose control of her faculties on a road in Hawaii just a few yards from the finish line of the Ironman World Championships. She finished, she staggered, fell, walked, crawled, cried, refused help and she finished. The young man wondered why anyone would want to do that - no matter how cool it seemed. How unbelievable it was that a human could do all that in one day - a 2.4 mile swim, a 112 mile bike ride and then a 26.2 mile run - and live to tell about it. Once a year, from that time, that young man watched the Ironman World Championships and was awed by the athletes that conquered "the toughest day in endurance sports." And then one day it happened, the offhand comment by a stranger in a locker room planted a seed, that germinated and was harvested at a micro sprint triathlon a few months later. One thing led to another and then in 2009, I completed my first Ironman in Arizona. It has
