  • Comments: Had there been a volunteer at run out, pointing or SOMETHING, I would have been fine. Could there have been water available SOMEWHERE around the transition area? would have been nice to not start this out with a big time thirst. All this being said. I plan on coming back next year :) (smarter though)

  • Comments: As for the race evaluation, I wish I would have at least spectated the previous years before WTC came in and took over. For my first Half Ironman, this was a great experience and would recommend the course and the event to anyone. Come prepared and expect to have even more fun.

  • Comments: All I can think is...this sure was a good learning experience. I learned that I really am one tough cookie to be able to get through that run...and that all the training in the world can't prevent your stomach from getting sick. I learned that the donks are the best group around, and they will be your biggest supporters and help you get to that finish line, and when you do...they will scream like crazy! I learned that my family/friends are the greatest source of strength when you feel like you just want to die... I learned how to push my body to limits I was unsure of before... I learned that even though I was no where near my goal time, I am very proud of myself for training hard, and finishing. (Medal or no medal...ha!) This was a great race, and I think I would have had a great day and a pretty good overall time had my stomach not gone to hell in a handbasket. Can't wait to do it all over again next year... Wait, maybe I should have gone to the med tent to

  • Comments: My personal race performance left much to be desired. The race experience was awesome. The organization was great. The volunteers and the community were outstanding. My support crew (Jen and the kids) were phenominal. Jen really came through by rallying the troops and having them out on the sidelines to cheer me on on an unpleasantly hot day. However bad my race performance was, nothing could top the feeling of approaching the finisher's chute and seeing my family there to cheer me on . . . best feeling in the world, and even had I raced faster, that feeling couldn't have been any better (although I might have gotten to experience it a little sooner). Overall, I have to look at this as a good experience and a definitely a learning experience. If I knew then what I know now, I think I could have done this race 20-30 minutes faster, just by making better decisions.

  • Comments: I thoroughly enjoyed doing this race despite my lack of training because I really didn't go into this racing wanting to "race" it. I was actually more excited/anxious about this race that my first HIM I did years ago because I didn't train for this one and was very very interested to see what would happen to me if I did the race with no/minimal training. I was my own experiment. Quite frankly, training an avg of 5 hours a week for only 3 months for this race and coming out of it with a 5.5 hr time....I'm very surprised that I didn't fall apart and get some worse time. My bike split wasn't that bad and my run split wasn't horrendous based on the amount of training I did. Maybe I do one of these with absolutely no training and really get in the hurt locker. :)

  • Comments: Carnage everywhere on the run course! People were passing out and puking due to the heat. I saw 3 ambulances transporting people out. I had a great first half! I truly feel like I left everything on the course, I finished empty - nothing left. I gave this race everything I had at every opportunity. I've never been so painfully sore during or after a race as I was/am post this race. I love it! I'll take this experience with me for life and I cannot wait to race another half! I'm now into my 3rd year of triathlon. A full Ironman was part of my 5 year goal; I'm halfway there. On a final note: The 1 big reason that I chose Racine as my first half was due to the race being on my mother's birthday. She passed away from brain cancer 2 and a half years ago. She never got to see me race a tri, but knew that I would be doing my first sprint tri that same year. I miss her so very much! I thought about her a lot during this race; and a big part of me knew that the pain I felt

  • Comments: I'm super happy to have finished my first HIM. It was a great experience and I'll put this race back on the calendar for next year. How long can I wear the wristband before it's a huge faux pas? Gender results 418/549 overall 344/549 swim 315/549 bike (excellent!) 478/549 run

  • Comments: Expected a bit more being a IM race, the aid stations were lacking and post race for the BOPers was not really there. Ready for 2011

  • Comments: Volunteers were tremendous, lake was awesome, bike was boring, run sucked but not due to organizers. First big race, but WTC seems to be on the spot with everything. Although maybe the turnaround on the run could be in a better smelling area, and since we really ran behind the zoo, can they at least take the garbage out before the 90 degee day cooks it. Other than that, just a great day.

  • Comments: Overall, great race. The volunteers did a super job and the course was marked well. Loved the people with the hoses. My only complaint is the lack of cold water and ice at many of the aid stations on the run. Heat was forecasted for a long time and WTC should have upped those quanitities considerably.

  • Comments: they ran out of sandwiches...not happy about that, only food left was some bagels and banana halves. also why would you put the wet suit strippers in the sand? and no salt tabs at the water/aid stations not good.(well for those that drop the ones they brought!) The volunteers were great though!

  • Comments: Well, I learned a lot from this race. I have taken each of the mistakes/lessons that I made and have learned from them. Nutrition was my downfall and I didn't help myself at all by not slowing down on the bike when I knew my heart-rate was too high. I know the story's of all the super fit guys walking the run bragging to others about what a killer bike split they had. I was stupid and it won't happen again. The heat contributed to my results but the real reason for my poor showing was a number of things that I have control over and I will change for next time.

  • Comments: Took the Clearwater slot. Mixed feelings about going to the draft-fest but I want to experience the 70.3 World Championships at least once (ate the entry fee when I qualified for Clearwater at Steelhead 70.3 in 2008).

  • Comments: Love this race. Same course as last year when it wasn't an Ironman 70.3 race. Awesome volunteers. Several residents on the run course with sprinklers/hoses that were lifesavers. Only complaint is the rough road in spots, but it's nothing we don't have to contend with on training rides. Will definitely do it again!
