  • Comments: Coming into Silverman, I had a 15-hour goal, but I was pretty intimidated by the course. In the back of my mind I had some lingering doubts about my ability to finish period, let alone within 15-hours. Instead of 15-hours, I ended up with about a 20-minute IM PR. To PR on such a tough course I'm taking as a sign that my fitness levels are improving. Any time a short paunchy guy like me can finish in the MOP, I'm a happy camper! I'm much less sore than after IM-Lou last year, and am starting to look forward to IM-Texas. I'm confident now I'll break 13-hours in May, and may be able to get close to 12! The only negative comment I have is that I think the half -distance racers must have cleaned out the shirts. They only had L, XL, and XXL left when I came through the chute. I'm about 175#, and the L is quite a bit too big for me. I sure most of the full distance people walked away with shirts that don't fit them! Kind of a bummer when everything else was so well done! That being said,

  • Comments: 4:1 volunteer to athlete ratio! A grueling course, but plenty rewarding. Lots of time to be alone and think on some unforgettable climbs. Right after finishing the race, I said I was done with Ironman distance races. By lunch the following day, I was considering IMAZ in a couple of years. Tonight (24 hours) after finishing Silverman, I'm open to doing the Silverman Full all over again...........................

  • Comments: This is a great race. It is run better than any other race that I do. The RD makes sure that you feel cared about while you are out on the course and again after you finish. The goody bag is the best in the business too. Looking forward to going back next year healthy. I am proud of the effort I put out after thinking on Thursday and Friday that I wouldn't be able to even give it a go.

  • Comments: This race was very important because it was to make up for not finishing my first Ironman in Coeur d'Alene this last June. I got hypothermia past the half-way point on the run, which left me very disappointed and a little demoralized. I almost didn't do the Full because I had been sick with a cold and then the flu 3 weeks before the race and after the plane rides, my voice became froggy, which is usually the first sign of my yearly bout of bronchitis. I switched to Half on the Friday, but when the bronchitis didn't appear the next day. Meagan (sp?) Lowery allowed me to switch back to Full (THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU...). I'm so glad that I did this race and my finish completely made up for the disappointment in Coeur d'Alene. It was my first completed Full iron-distance race, and I received an award for being 3rd in my age group. This race is so well organized (it would have to be to let a neurotic triathlete change her mind twice) and fun. The volunteers were spectacular!!

  • Comments: Random Thoughts: I was really shooting for a sub 15 hour IM. Got close! My biking, due to skill, fitness, and mostly the weather, was my downfall. I REALLY tried to make up for it on the run, but couldn't make up the last 5 minutes. Some people say that you consider quiting a thousand times on the course. I can honestly say, I NEVER considered quiting. However, I hit one dark moment, where I could see where it would be possible to think that way. For me, it was after the first loop of the run. I was DONE with this race. I was into it for about 12 1/2 hours, exhaused, hurting, hungry... Then thought of going back out to do the second loop, where it was even darker, colder, and I was more tired, was almost too much to bare. But quiting? NOT an option. I just went out and grinded it out. One moment I thought was funny, I hit the 7 hour mark while on the bike and asked myself "why did I sign up for the IM instead of the HIM? I would be done right now, drinking beer! But

  • Comments: One of the best races I have ever done, very comprable to the official IM events, actually, it's probably better because there is the extra personal attention. This is my very best IM effort and I know I would have PR'd for the distance if it were an easier course.

  • Comments: This is a terrific, well organized race. I would highly recommend it to anyone wanting to do a tough but beautiful course. The swim (when I could see) was amazing. The bike had a lot of views of Lake Mead and surrounding rocks and hills. The run had great views overlooking Las Vegas and the city lights. Lastly, the race director did an excellent job putting on a well organized and terrific race. I believe this is the first 5 I have ever given to a race.

  • Comments: This race is awesome and I am definitely doing it again next year. I have unfinished business with that lake and want to do even better on the bike and run. I am really pleased with how I finished but want to do even better, especially on the swim. The RD and staff were great and the volunteers were awesome. All of the aid stations were setup to where I didn't miss any of them and easily got everything I needed. I made sure to thank all of them that I could. (I think I already said that but they were great so I will keep on saying it.) Also, you get great schwag! A really nice Silverman backpack with 3 water bottles, a pair of racetech TYR swim goggles, Silverman headsweats visor, Silverman blanket, Silverman T-Shirt, Silverman playing cards, nutrition items and more. Then a awesome finishers medal and finishers T-Shirt. Can't wait until next year. Anyone want to join me?

  • Comments: Along with 60% of the field, I believe, this was my first full-distance triathlon. In fact, it was my first-ever triathlon. Prior to this event I had completed the NYC Marathon in 2004, but had not otherwise exercised in over 20 years. I followed the "Beginner Ironman" training program on BeginnerTriathlete.com, read a few articles, and accomplished my goal: to finish. The Silverman event was extremely well run, with wonderful volunteers and participants. I don't doubt the event's billing as "the most grueling full-distance triathlon in North America," but even so I highly recommend this event for anyone who really wants to test their training and character. Only about 150 individuals now own a beautiful Silverman finisher's medal, something that I believe over time will become one of the most coveted pieces of triathlon hardware out there. Get yours next year!

  • Comments: I think the Silverman accurately bills itself as the toughest full distance triathlon. While the course was very difficult, it was also amazingly beautiful. The swim in Lake Mead (literally right around the corner from the Hoover Dam) was beautiful and the water clarity was great. The bike and the run course constisted of unrelenting rollers that taxed my legs to their limits. That said, the course scenery was absolutely amazing. If I had actually trained intelligently, it would have also been much more manageable. This was definitely a very professional race for an inaugural event. The RD, Dave Scott, numerous other organizers, and the close to 1000 volunteers went out of their way to make sure that as many people as possible came home safely in under 17 hrs. I would do this race again. I can only hope that the event grows and gets the kind of support that it deserves. BTW - The only event I've been to that was marginally better produced was the Timberman but this was almost
