  • Comments: When I got home and told my wife all about it (she couldn't come because of work), she decided she wants to do one next year! She is a much better endurance athlete than me (she raced the mile in college swimming, I did the 50 and 100) so she might just kick my butt. Unfortunately, for her to be able to do it with work, we can't go all the way to MD next year :( We both signed up for IM Louisville because it is close. I didn't really take any time off after the race. 3 days later I was already hitting it again. Doing 3 or 4 5-mile runs a week and throwing 10-20 milers once a week. I actually did 10 miles the Saturday after the race. I have a lot of work to doto get under 10 minute miles next time. Great Fun!!!!

  • Comments: I thought this race was great!! It didn't have all the hoopla of an IM, but I enjoyed racing it more than any IM. Less physical swim. No worries about ppl drafting/blcoking/getting in your way on the bike...so much so there were long stretches (up to 10min) where I wouldn't see another athlete on the bike...and I think I only passed 2ppl (excluding those still on their first lap) the last 40+miles on the bike. I enjoyed the solitude on the bike. The three loop run was actually quite nice. Only negative was its tough to know what position you are in..not a big deal for me but if you are racing for an OA spot, then lead bikes would have been nice. Cpl things coulda been better; - Not the most organized run aid stations..not the IM water, gatorade, gel, snacks, water, gatorade, gel, snacks...(or whatever organized order IMs have) - Stations had soda but when you called for it they had to run to the table and find it. A kid actually gave the OA winner a can of pepsi the one time. -

  • Comments: Great swag -- two short-sleeve shirts and one long sleeve, a nice sling-back bag, and other small stuff. It was different to be able to drive to do an IM-distance race the day before the actual race! The best part for me was seeing Tim have a solid run and break 11 hours. We also both appreciated having Brad there. Having someone out there cheering us on absolutely helps!!!

  • Comments: This is a great race and I am hoping to get more folks psyched to signup in 2010. The website is TriColumbia.org. These are the folks that also put on the Columbia Triathlon, the Eagleman, and some others; they do a phenomonal job. I've done 9 Ironman races now, and about a dozen 1/2 Iron distance races. I've done a bunch of M-DOT, including Hawaii, so I feel like I have a good handle on what other venues are like. Here's why I love the Chesapeakman. Well run and organized. Everything is kept real simple. Volunteers are awesome. Small race -- no huge crowds to deal with - -but enough racers to keep one motivated. Logistically easy venue -- if you are at the event solo. Park your car right at the finish (at a local high school) -- Take a 5 minute bus to the start. Plenty of parking / No long walks with gear / well equipped / plenty of post-race support in the High School's gym. Swim Course is tough - choppy water / current / windy -- this is a negative in my book since

  • Comments: I loved this race!!! the volunteers were awesome--the fans were awesome--very well organized, medical staff was right there, and the courses were perfect. Yes, it was windy, but I never got bored on the courses, and never felt like the race wasn't what i expected. I'd love to volunteer here next year! Overall--if you are looking for an ironman that costs you only $370 bucks to enter, or for your first iron-distance--this is a great race to do it! Also, the director advocates giving out prize money for amatuer racers that place top 1-5 M/F--I even won $300! Totally a great race!

  • Comments: Want you first IM distance race without sharing the swim start with 1,600 of your friend. This is a great race. Low key and easy going. You always felt like this about finishing well. Everyone was looking to after you and ready to help. Rest stop awesome. I never wanted for anything. This journey started years ago. I did miss Mike doing this with me but what a sherpa. He was there at every transition and loop. Thanks Mike for making your way down with me. Check out this gear review http://beginnertriathlete.com/gear/review.asp?reviewid=2598 Kam thanks too!! Y Thank you for letting me train. Being excited that I was doing this. Making sure Will was set and all the stuff that goes with this endeavor. All my BT buddies for encouragement and support. Ken for meeting me at the butt crack of dawn to swim or bike. Mike for evening runs. Knowing people believe in you is the most important first step in this journey. This is the end of the 50 y/o bucket list.

  • Comments: I will say that packet pickup, etc. seemed a little disorganized, but other than that I can't say enough about the race and the volunteers. The time they put in, and the encouragement they provide, is amazing!

  • Comments: It is a very small and low key event. The volunteers were great. The post race for the Aqua Velo seemed to be lacking a little bit. Warm sodas and cold pizza isnt my idea of refueling. 3 race T-shirts which at first I thought was cool, but then realized that two were advertising some event next year and the actual race shirt had a misprint on it with the swim being listed as 1.2 miles!

  • Comments: Really fun low key Iron Distance race. Only about 450 people total and I think like 150 of those were Aqua Velo. The only thing I didn't like were the shirts. We got 3 which was cool, but two of them have advertising all over the back for some race in 2010 and the third one has the wrong distance for the Aqua Velo. It says 1.2 mile swim!! All in all though, I would probably do it again someday, maybe next ear as a tune up for IMAZ, who knows!
