  • Comments: I don't recall seeing a course marshall at the turn onto 95 on my second lap. Given the amount of traffic on 95, that would be an important detail. Otherwise everything went fairly well. While I don't know if I'll continue to do HIMs, if I do this will definitely be on the list.

  • Comments: Overall, very happy. I wanted to get somewhere in the 5:30s for this race, and I almost undercut my goal. Even though this half and my last half were not exact same distances, I still dropped about 30 minutes off my time. My first half was stupid hot(door county). Definitely could train more as always, but I think the biggest thing is I'm learning to push myself and figuring out how to hurt and still keep going.

  • Comments: i really liked the social atmosphere of the longer distance race. The swim was short. Not a big deal, everyone races the same course. If i race this distance again, then i would do this race again. Any negatives i have toward the race are self inflicted and the usual lack of organization of a randy race, which i really dont have any problems with that.

  • Comments: It was too hard b/c I was undertrained. I'll be back next year, wiser and much faster.

  • Comments: Communication is nearly non-existent pre-race. Now that I know the routine, I might do the race again. Pretty challenging for a 1st time half iron, but I learned a lot and everyone was so nice.

  • Comments: I think Vacation Sports puts on good events. I will do the long course by myself again next year. I wanted to do the short course to see how I'd progressed. Now back to the longer stuff.

  • Comments: Great lake to swim in, fun bike course (save for the cheating drafters); run course would have been fine with some cloud cover, cooler day and me sucking it up.

  • Comments: I am very happy to have finished my first Half Ironman. I didn't quit in spite of adversity and I finished. I didn't care about time at any point in the race. This race was about me overcoming and finishing. I wanted to prove all the nay sayers wrong. And most of all I wanted to prove to myself that I wasn't a quitter. I FINISHED!

  • Comments: Race itself was OK. No SWAG bag at all just a t-shirt. Post-race food was ok, hot dog, trail mix and and some munchies. No fruit and I only saw water. Price was great when I signed up last December. I did go to Cities on Fri for packet pickup and to check out the course, primarily becuase I hadn't done it before and knew we'd be getting to hotel late on Sat night after Koch wedding.

  • Comments: The lake was great for swimming, the bike was good except for the rough patch of road. There were water stops at every mile on the run, and they had gatorade and water at every water stop. It was a little tough for spectators to get into the park when the race was on. My wife said if she went to watch she would just park on the street. There was no swag at all, not even a T-shirt, but they did let us keep the swim cap.:-) I'm not complaining because I signed up last December when it was 1/2 price for $40. That's a pretty good price for a HIM. I was looking at some other HIM's in the area and they were $130. There were plenty of volunteers and I thought the race was well ran.

  • Comments: The vibe of the event was fun-- if I had been a newbie I wouldn't have been intimidated at all. The course offers some good climbs, is jusssst challenging enough, and keeps you from getting bored. I had a great time and will definitely be doing it again next year. excluding the elites... 5th female overall 2nd in AG

  • Comments: I mentioned earlier that my family wasn't there in T2 when I got off the bike. After the race I looked in my car at my sleeping son only to find a giant 1 1/2 inch gash in his head. During the bike they had gone to a park to pass the time and he tripped and hit his head on a bench splitting his head wide open. Luckily we had friends with us, so my wife had help, but blood was pouring out of his little head and they rushed him to the emergency room. Finishing the race seemed like such a small task now. My wife had now spent the last 2 days in the emergency room with our frightened little kids. The last couple of days following the race I have been kicking myself for dragging the family to all of these races for my own selfishness. In fact I thought of hanging them up. But I have the greatest wife who said that she supports my racing and would never want me to quit something I love and wouldn't want to put up with me being a crab ass :). In fact despite my soreness (ankles and feet

  • Comments: Could use additional sponsorships! What was touted as gatorade was very watered down so I am happy I brought my own rehydration drink! Maybe it was a combo of the weather and my snail finish but, for the type of race and race fee charged, I was dissapointed by the post-race activities and the lack of items at the snack table to eat. All we received for entering was a cheezy t-shirt and nothing for finishing. I would think a 70.3 hand towel or race cap with a 70.3 club inscription awarded to all finishers would not be too much to ask for as an atta-boy or atta-girl award... Regardless, everyone was very friendly and accommodating and the volunteers were very helpfull and absolutely wonderful to endure such a miserble day outdoors. This was my first 1/2 IM so in spite of the weather, and all other things considered, I enjoyed the race and am immensely pleased to be a member of the 70.3 club. I now feel like a true triathlete. Thank you.

  • Comments: ONE portabiff in the transition area sums it up. Moving bouys on the swim sucked. No medal...downright criminal.
