  • Comments: Disappointing & humblling. Frustrating. Clearly , I missed something in training..I felt capable of running at a reasonable pace ..but my gI system would have none of it..the kiss of death..Maintaining forward motion required all I could muster..and brain clearly wasn't on all cylinders to troubleshoot the problem either..Takeaways- choose to focus on the SUCCESS of the swim..the reasonable bike..and the challenge ahead to sort out fueling/hydrating for the marathon....

  • Comments: Great race. Everything was organized and well run. The course is flat, but not easy. If you think it's easy then you aren't pushing yourself hard enough.

  • Comments: The volunteers were awesome! I took all my own gatoraide for the bike and the run. That worked out perfect. I made two bottles of double strength for the bike and diluted with course water - worked. For the last 1/2 of the run I had two bottles of double strength and only used one of them. I lost two bottles when I sat down one time to work on shoe. If I ever have something like that again I should look for medical aide at aide station. Some moleskin would have made the whole thing a lot better I think.

  • Comments: Overall, I am really happy with my preparation and my performance. While my back gave me fits, my legs were strong throughout. I never felt like they were weakening. I had a slight adjustment in nutrition on the bike, but relying almost entirely on liquids worked well for me. Going in, I considered my best case scenario to be a 15:30, with my realistic pace at 16:00. I was able to execute the plan I went into the water with, despite the 22+ minutes I gave up at the end. 36 months ago, I was a full-fledged couch potato. I started a C25K plan hoping to get to the point where I could run an occasional 5K again. The photo of me in the red shirt was taken in November 2011 at my first 5K after I started running again. Two years later in November 2013 I became an Ironman.

  • Comments: I could not have done this without the support of my wife and family. IronMan training takes a lot of time away from your loved ones. It was great to have all of them make the long drive to Panama City to come and out and support me. There is no better feeling than seeing your family out on the course throughout the day. Remember that their sacrifice is just as big as yours. The volunteers here were amazing, second to none. They did a tremendous job at the aid stations.

  • Comments: • The volunteers, the crowd, and the enthusiasm from the other racers and EN team was awesome. Inspiring. If only people acted like that in every day life!! • IMFL gets somewhat of a bad rap, and I wasn’t really looking forward to it from all the stories I had heard, but I actually REALLY liked this race. I would do it again in a heartbeat. • I had an IM PR of over an hour (IMLP 2011 in 11:49). Yeah, IMFL was a faster course on a fast day, but hey, a PR is a PR. • Came in the top 15% of the field and my age group – not bad. • Got to race with my best bud of 30 years and EN teammate, Mike. He had one of those ninja execution days and I could not be prouder or more happy for him. Ironman is expensive and crowded and hard, but damn...it is awesome. First class event.

  • Comments: So many people to thank. This is my best result in the last 3 years so I am pleased with it even tho I know I have better in me. I have the bestest Iron Friends in the whole wide world. My sweet pumpkin. It wasn't easy for him to get there this year but he made it. Kathy and Kevin. It was so awesome seeing them out on the course amd spending time with them over the weekend. I can't wait to race with Kathy next year!!! Wendi, Jeff and Deb. Not many people will walk a 1/2 marathon with you!! All my friends and my famly cheering on from home too!! It was so much fun seeing all my friends out on the course. I am a very lucky girl. Big shout out to my coach Will Kirousis of Tri-Hard Coaching. Will and I have been through a lot together on and off the race coruse over the last 8 years. I appreciate everything you do for me Will ad thanks for helping me make it happen. THANK YOU EVERYONE CAN'T WAIT TO DO IT AGAIN NEXT YEAR!!!

  • Comments: I know there has been a lot of conversations about how expensive IM races are getting. And I know there are some very well run independent races, but you can tell that a lot of money is spent putting these races on so to some degree, you get what you pay for. I also want to give a shout out to my training partners Dudley and Mike! Especially Dudley since in addition to providing company on some of the long bikes and swims, he also helps me rehab the occasional aches and pains and is just a very good friend to me. Unfortunately the 3 of us didn't get as much racing and training in as we would have liked, we had a lot of fun when we did! I was always concerned about hiring a coach. After a couple of injury riddled seasons, I decided I best seek out the advice of a good coach. Dan Jarecke has put me through a challenging program that let me race often (probably too often!) but more importantly race strong while at the same time staying healthy! I am grateful for making that decision

  • Comments: Overall I was so happy with how my race went. I couldn't have expected it to go any smoother. I know I can work on speed with the bike and run or next year's race, and now that I feel I have dialed in my nutrition better on the bike I can further work on that. I am just so happy my GI was not an issue, and when I was running I felt I could just keep on running. I was moderately cautious on the bike with my heart rate higher than I planned, and I think this along with less calories put me in good position for my run.

  • Comments: I had this race for a PR !! I trained and was ready for it. IF IF it was me that failed I could handle it better. Like lack of hydration or nutrition etc.. I could handle it better BUT when BAD PISS POOR SPORTSMANSHIP is the cause I cannot deal with it. I mean if people have to cheat or wanna team sport go to baseball or bowling. I have waited 5 years to race IMFL ( spent almost 3 of them years in the desert) finally get to it and ready to lay it all out and this shit happens. Sorry but IRONMAN did a terrible job with the refs and need more to control this. AND if anyone reading this you was in them packs MOVE ON TO A NEW SPORT !! and I will bet you still didnt come close to the Kona slot you wanted.

  • Comments: I had every reason to believe this would be a sub 12 race for me. In the back of my mind I was even thinking a 11:15 was do-able. It was a awesome feeling going over the finish line and becoming an Ironman, something that I can take with me the rest of my life..

  • Comments: Typical Ironman extravaganza, and I mean that as a complement. The only unique thing here was the self seeding start. It worked fine. I think most people would have seeded themselves in the exact same spot without the signs showing expected swim time, but the signs did provide a better idea of where to be. This keeps the appeal of the mass start (which I love) and helps people get themselves in the right spot. I would much rather have this than get split into waves.

  • Comments: I wanted to do my first full at a WTC race for the atmosphere. IMFL lived up to the experience. Right after I finished I swore I was done with the distance. After 2 days of reflection I have to get at least another shot at it.
