  • Comments: Overall, I'm very happy with my race, but especially so with the run. After enduring a string of lower leg injuries all summer, that kept me out of my A race this year, it is very satisfying to have regained my running fitness, and apparently surpassed it, in the nine weeks I've been back to running. Actually my swim split into T1 may have been faster than last year largely due to a strong run from the ocean to the transition area. My bike time was slower this year, and I've been thinking I've been in denial lately about having lost some of the edge I had in late August/early September, which may indicate that I may have peaked about that time. As usual, the race was well organized, with plenty of volunteers beefed up by the North Torrance High School Cross Country team. This was a great race to finish up the 2007 season.

  • Comments: A great beginner race and a great way to end my first season - on a high note. I was frustrated by the bike course because I wanted to hammer that a lot more, but still, my run time made my day. Not sure if I would do this race again because it was crowded and there was no race day bag! Plus it seemed like most of the people I knew were not racing it. It has been an incredible 10 months since I decided to do my first triathlon and now, no regrets and only goals at this point. Next season I plan on getting on a podium!

  • Comments: Great race for a first-timer like me. Course layout and structure was good. Bike course was a little narrow, three laps was somewhat an issue due to merging traffic coming in off the hill.

  • Comments: I give this race a 4, when it really deserves a 3, simply because of where it is and who does it out of the people I know. I am blessed to train with some very talented people, and saw my friends take 4th in 50-54, 3d in 45-49, 1st and 2d in 30-34, 1st in 40-44 Note to RD next year - DON'T use the plastic bands for timing chip bands. Ended up with a cut on my ankle from the frigging thing....... Also, no swag bag? I mean, 90% of it gets thrown away but I still keep the mini bottles of sunscreen or whatever.

  • Comments: This race was a rollercoaster for me. On the negative side, I had a rough swim, I felt tired, I was slow in transition, my bike gears failed, I lost a water bottle, and I didn't have any friends or family there to cheer me on. On the plus side, I got my personal best on the bike and a much improved personal best on the run. When I started this whole triathlon training thing, I was afraid that I'd barely survive a sprint tri. Now I know that even on a day where I feel like crap, I can still finish a race and even pull off some good times. I just need to keep the negative attitude in check. Whenever I get discouraged again in a race, I'll remember the race where I almost quit, then went on to get two of my best times.

  • Comments: Good local race. Very newbie-friendly. Not the place to set a PR. Bike course is an obastacle course.
