  • Overall course based on my ability: Just right

  • Comments: This was my first Olympic distance event. I was hoping for an under 3 hour finish, predicting between 2:40 and 2:50. So I was thrilled with the 2:45 time (not to mention finishing alive). I've done Tobay (sprint) a few times, so this was a new experience for me. I highly recommend it to anyone. Had a great time, can't wait for 2011 to hopefully get a finish in the 2:30s.

  • Comments: Not a fan of this race. First, it is FAR out there on Long Island. Getting up at 3 AM (after four hours of sleep) to drive two hours isn't a great way to start race day. It also discourages friends and family from spectating- including my own. Other complaints (and these aren't influenced by my terrible performance)... Swim course was very poorly marked. Having one buoy a half-mile away to sight off of doesn't work. Volunteers on the race course were unenthusiastic and didn't offer a single word of encouragement. One guy was actually asleep on the side of the road. Thanks, dude. Also, for the $135 race fee, I don't think I got my money's worth. Compared to Tobay, the swag was crap (loved the race shirt, but the only other things in the bag were a tube of toothpaste and chapstick- weird) and the food was nothing special. For 135 bucks, something more than a bagel and peanut butter would be nice. OK I'll stop because I'm being bitter. To end on a positive note... The announcers were good
