  • Comments: This is tough course – not as tough as Patagonia or Bartlett, which have much bigger hills, but the elevation definitely makes it more challenging than a course profile would indicate. It is well run, with some nice bonuses. The trip to Show Low was a long drive, but it’s a solid race.

  • Overall course based on my ability: Too hard

  • Comments: This was my first race, so it is hard to judge, but it was just not organized. I overheard a race organizer complaining about permit fees, and during the race I could not help but think about his moaning about $700 in permits and me not having water on the run, and not having aid station distances marked. I'm not sure I will compete in this triathlon again. About two-weeks after the race, the director called, apologizing for not having enough water on the race course, that they had water but could not get it to the aid stations.

  • Comments: On a positive note, my buddies, Paul and Jeff, both got first place in their age groups in the Sprint. Note to self: if you come back to Show Low to race, try the Sprint distance!

  • Comments: Great race although the switch to this weekend seemed to really have hurt attendance, at least according to what others were saying. It used to be early in the season and this year they pushed it back, only to have it fall on the same weekend as 70.3 worlds just down the street in Vegas. Then again, if it weren't for that I would have never squeaked into a podium spot. Talk about dumb luck. Oh as for the GF, she went 8th female OA, 2nd AG and put 9 minutes into me by the time we were done. Humble pie served :)

  • Comments: Despite my troubles, and despite the issue with the finisher's medals, it was a well put togther race. There was plenty of support and plenty of great volunteers. Had my mental focus and physical ability on race day been better, it would have been a much better experience. There have been races when my mental focus hasn't been there and others where my physical effort was off. To this point, I have never had both happen on the same day. In a town named for gambling, I rolled the dice and came up with snake eyes. I haven't been completely owned by a course this badly since Pumpkinman in '07 - but I was a less trained athlete then. Looking at the stark reality of the numbers, this was likely my worst race ever - at least from a perspective of the gap between preparation/ability and performance on race day. The season is half over now, and it has been rough so far. However, there is still time to right the ship and salvage my two big events. I'll work hard on the swim between

  • Comments: This is a terrific Tri festival. Everything was beautifully executed and the scenery and courses were terrific. Given the altitude, terrain and climbs, this isn't the easiest Tri, but it's up there on the fun scale. Having 4 different Tri's in the weekend really makes it a 'happening'. The raffle prizes were over the top incredible... even though I didn't win a damn thing and others went home with thousands of dollars worth of tri-booty. The technical t-shirt was pretty nice and in the schwag bag there was a nice little under-helmet beanie for cold weather rides. Oh, they ran out of finisher medals if you were in the bottom half- not sure why. The Tucson tri club treated me to a great evening dinner at their campsite. Thanks Leo!

  • Comments: Tri Sports did a great job! Lots of support, beautiful course, and not too many athletes. The caliber of athlete at this race was amazing. Not many newbies here for sure.

  • Comments: I know I said that the Tempe International was a great race. But I honestly think that if I had the opportunity to do this particular race again next year I would definitely do it. It's nice and cool, it's in beautiful country, there were tons of very encouraging/helpful volunteers, the course itself was challenging, and the finisher's medal is pretty cool. To anyone looking for an awesome Tri (whether you want to do a sprint, olympic, half-iron, or a Relay), definitely give this one a go. Decent schwag bag too (a TYR bag, a nice long-sleeved shirt, a sweatband, some sample products, and the bib stub doubled as free food later on) NOTE: For Age Group rankings I used the clydesdale rankings instead since for some reason I show up in overall, but not when sorted by age group. ~shrug~

  • Comments: Overall the race was excellent and really couldn't have gone better. Lots of volunteers and water stations. Everyone was helpful. The bike aid guy was incredibly helpful. Even the goody bag was excellent. The transportation was awful though. There was a shuttle and in the morning most everyone rode to the race but not surprisingly most people wanted a ride back to cars. Took at least 30 minutes for the shuttle make it around. Definitely needed a second shuttle.

  • Comments: Great race, great venue, great organization and everything happened on time. They had a finish line announcer calling out everyone's name and hometown. Good post-race food for athletes. Having to park off-site was a hassle but given the venue I'm not sure what else can be done. Quality and variety of food at post-race BBQ was the only disappointment.

  • Comments: TriSports.com puts on a good race! I'm thinking I'll do this race every year. It's worth the drive, great venue, and a lot of fun.
