  • Comments: only 1 drink station was out of powerade & that was an early stop so no big deal. What's up with the oranges being so early in the race - and at the narrowest point on the course????? We were actually late starting, but I didn't notice it.

  • Comments: How amazing to have the marines on the course being the volunteers. I couldn't help but want to hug and thank every one of them for their daily fight for our freedom. The sights along the way were just breathtaking and I really tried to take it all in. The finish photo at the statue was cool! I think the post race area was congested and not well labled...No one seemed to know where the medic tent was, where the UPS trucks were...it just seemed clogged and hard to move around but whatever, 34,000 runners...what do you expect?

  • Comments: I'll definitely be back. Very well organized, but there were just soooooooooo many people. It wouldn't surprise me to see a smaller field next year. But this was a great weekend of BT fun that will definitely be revisited! Congrats to EVERYONE who came out for MCM this year, and to the one, the only CHIPPY for conquering the 26.2!!!!!

  • Comments: This is by far the best race I've ever done. I can't even begin to give justice to the crowds and the Marines manning the water stations along the way. It was an honor to run in their Marathon! I will put this on my annual list of events!

  • Comments: MCM 2006 was well run, except for the finish and postrace activities. The Iwo Jima memorial site isn't big enough for all finishers and their families/spectators. at the end of this run, runners crossed the finish line only to stand and wait in line for their medal. then had to wait for another good 5-10 minutes to get to food/water area. not good to stand still after running 26.2 miles. other than that, this is a great run and a beautiful course.

  • Comments: MCM is an excellent race in every regard. First, Congratulations to Chippy and Shaun (CubeFarmGopher), Rob (CaptainJackSparrow) for their first mary finishes in excellent times. A shout out to rrizzo and max for finishing on bum wheels / flat tires / bad legs; Also congratulations to Q for cracking 4 hours in his first serious LD attempt on pavement, and to Wendi for PR'ing. Props to Mike, Trix, Aaron, and Fit for pacing everyone and not commiting any felonies on the course. Troopers in every sense of the word. Plusses: Organization, volunteers (the Marines) were amazing, Schwag (t-shirt, medal, coin, and amazing other stuff), expo (great vendors, lotsa stuff), scenery, BT population there, ease of transport TO the race site, UPS trucks for bag drop, course, proximity to reagan national. Minuses: Getting home, that unbelievably horrible band at the finish, and the post-race party. Bottom line: If you haven't done this race, Do It. It's amazing, and fun. I'll be back. :

  • Comments: As my first marathon are there things I should have done differently? Sure. More training, more long runs, more understanding of what I would experience mentally during the race, etc. But of all the things that I could have done differently, one thing I wouldn't have done differently was change my running partners. They were a steadying factor, a factor in making me feel like I belonged on that course, and truly were an inspiration after I cracked so late in the race. I don't think I can say 'Thanks' enough to them. They were all absolutely amazing.

  • Comments: The race was good up until the finish. The logistics were terrible. There were spectators trying to meet their runner way too close to the finish area. The "meeting area" was atrocious. People were everywhere and you couldn't walk. The crowd support was AWESOME. It seemed like there were people cheering you on during the entire course. Of course there were also idiots crossing the street in front of you too. Not smart!

  • Comments: Now for my critique. There should be sricter enforcement of the rule that prohibits wearing walkman/ipod devices. Some of these people were an obstacle to runners trying to pass as they could not hear calls of "on your left." It also posed an inconvenience bordering on danger to the wheel chair athletes who often had to slow down preciptiously when these runners could not hear the multiple shouts of runners from behind to clear a way for the wheel chair. This is also a reason to start the wheel chair athletes well ahead of the bulk of the runners rather than between the scarlet and gold waves as was the case this year. Overall, I think the Marines did an excellent job on this event. The newspaper reported that about 27,000 competed, which makes more sense than the 20,000 Championchip listed on the results page. Regardless of one's politics, the Marines are a great group of guys. I'll never forget when I was assigned to U.S. Embassy Caracas in the 1990s, how these young men, just

  • Comments: 1st ever did not train very well. Longest run was 13 miles. I cramped up big time at mile 19-26. Lost my watch at mile 10-13. Real screwed me up not n=knowing my times. Missed out on replenishing. I started off like a bat out of hell. I learned alot about running in a big race better off getting to the front or waiting till the end.

  • Comments: This was my first marathon and in fact my first endurance event ever back in 2003. I love this race because of the organization and support and plus its close to where I grew up so that family can come watch. I highly recommend this race to everyone, and just when you think that you want to give up, you have a Marine yelling at you to keep moving. The course is relatively flat with a few hills, and you have something to look at with all the monuments you pass.

  • Comments: I was incredibly impressed with this race this year. Honestly, I never expected them to be able to double their number of participants and have it run as smoothly as it did. They never ran out of anything and the whole thing went just insanely well. Kudos to the Marines (no one tell Stake I said that). I didn't particularly like running in the massive throng of people the whole time though. The course did get crowded with that many runners. I have liked the course itself better in previous years (just sayin' in case that wasn't clear enough from my race report) but it probably isn't all that hard as marathons go. I personally felt like the day went well. In the end I DID slightly negative split by 9 seconds...something I have never ever done before. Could I have had a better pacing plan? Yeah, probably. But I'm new to HR training and that will come. The goal of the day was to finish without my knees hurting, and I did that. By that night they were REALLY sore...but they never

  • Comments: I rated this event a 4, mostly because it is a very crowded race, lots of food at the finish line, even for the late arrivals, I can't say enough good about the marines and volunteers who support this event and the spectators are awesome!!! I would recommend this event; it is an amazing event!

  • Comments: I had some major run demons that needed to be resolved on this course. Each of the 4 marathons I have done have had a slower time than the previous, so that was starting to get to me. Also, this is the race I did 2 years ago and walked the whole 2nd half of the race. Finally, after walking the majority of the marathon at the Ironman, I wanted to show myself again I can run these things, which I did and besides the joint pain which one always gets in a marathon eventually, it felt pretty easy. My HR was always low and breathing was slow and steady. So all in all, a good race to go into off season with.
