Pre-race routine:

I did a 1500 meter swim in the lake a day earlier. Venue is an alpine lake in the Cascades.

Event warmup:

Tried to stay warm. Arrived 2 hours early. Temperature 40 degrees and the lake was covered by fog. By race time the temperature was close to 60 degrees and it was beautiful. I only did dry land warmups.

What would you do differently?:

Start training for the swim earlier in the season.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Spring shoulder injury lost 2 months and had to start all over in May
