Are you allowed to swim with wetsuit in a non-wetsuit Xterra?

Might sound illogical but if you are an amateur age grouper are you allowed to swim with a wetsuit even if the race is non-wetsuit? Of course this only applies when temperatures are borderline wetsuit/non-wetsuit. As an amateur beginner I am looking at every advantage I can get on the dreaded swim.
