Comments: I never checked my official results. I was just aiming to finish the event without walking. What would you do differently?: I would have held position on the inside of the track better. I wouldn't let myself be pushed to the right. My route was like the great circle route. ![]() Transition 1
Comments: A bizarre thing happened. My speedometer fell off soon after I got started. I had to dismount and go back for it. That threw me off for the first couple of miles. ![]() Bike
Comments: I had to pee really badly so I dismounted and ran into some bushes. What else could I do? That was the second time in 40k that I had to get off my bike. That can't be right. What would you do differently?: Go faster. Tape my speedometer on to the bike. ![]() Transition 2
Comments: I'm best at transitions. I practiced them a lot on the night before the start. ![]() Run
Comments: I would take two glasses of water at each station. One I gulped and one I threw on my face to keep cool. I was glad I had done this because my training partner, Neisha, had to stop and receive medical treatment for overheating. It was a very hot day. What would you do differently?: Run faster. ![]() Post race
Warm down: I walked back to the hotel and switched into swimsuit for a dip in the pool. What limited your ability to perform faster: My biking skills suck. That much is certain. Event comments: Everything about the race and venue is perfect. It was my first olympic distance tri and I thought I needed to hold back my speed until the run. As it turns out, I had more than enough energy for the run so I probably should have been going faster during the swim and bike. Last updated: 2005-03-08 12:00 AM

I drank a lot of water for the two days prior to the event. I went for one open water swim at the race site on the day before the event. Also, two days before the event, I did the whole 40k ride to become acquainted with the course.
In the morning I woke up plenty early to eat a breakfast of cereal, toast, juice and lots of water. Then reported to the race start area to check on my bike and arrange my gear in the transition area. I was on the beach 15 mins before my start so I couldn't miss my age group.
