Pre-race routine:

Got up early, eat a banana, smoothie, accelerade and a bottle of water. I really took sometime to stretch out really well. I brought additional clothing also b/c the weather was less than par.
Event warmup:

Several trips to the bathroom, streched out everything. Hamstring were giving me issues this morning. Some light jogging around the are

Comments:

The course was good with the exception of being able to see who was a head of you when they can flying past.

It was extremely cold day for april. It was 35 degrees, very windy, and snowed/sleeted the whole time. We got a bit of cross-wind on the way out but really got pounded on the way back. Everythime the wind would pickup you could see the whole pack literally slow down.

The majority of the racers were die-hard so I ran at the tale-end of the pack.

I didn't past anyone the majority of the race and when i did it was on the hill section. My training has always been on hills...there is no escaping them. Its weird that I am fast on hills both up and down but I am slow on the flats.

I was really nervous about this race b/c of the shinsplints but they really didn't give me any poblems but my hampstrings did...not severley but enough that I noticed them during the run. I spent all morning stretching them out and it didn't help. I am not sure why. I have never had problems with them before. It could be due to the cold weather.

I experiment again with the GU packets and they definetly help and do not give me stomach problems!! I took one at the 3 mile turn around.

Mentally I was pretty strong. I just kept telling myself this was my 1st 10K ever!!! and the finishing was a acomplishment.
What would you do differently?:

Dress appropriatly, I wore way to many clothes again. I can never get the right balance. I just have to remember that i am a furnace and produce lots of body heat and even if I am cold at the start line for a little bit that it won't matter by mile 1. I will be comfortable. Also, buy apair of running glove (note to self)

Never ever have a smoothie before a run..it didn't sit well at all.
Post race
Warm down:

They had quite a large spread with beer, pasta and chicken etc. By the time I finished, everyone was grubbing or boozing it up. I am not a person to ever get lonely but it was hard after the race especially coming in the back of the pack and running by yourself. I did feel lonesome and headed back to my car to a gatorade, water, banana, and a granola bar. I headed home and stretch. I enjoyed a nice hot shower.

When getting out of my car my hampstrings did cramp up. I took 2 aspirins

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Hampstrings, cold weather, snow/sleat,heavy winds, clothing choices and smmothie...damn those smoothies..lol

Out of what i could control, I think i I could have added a short run a day or two before the race. In which I opted out so i could rest my shins.

Have a better understanding of what I can and can not eat before a race,

Know what clothing choices work best for me and go in knowing that I radiate heat.

Event comments:

I would do this race again. It was well run and the people were friendly.

On a side note, I am disappointed in my performance. I was hoping to shoot for 55 mins, close to a 8 min mile. i didn't like coming in the back of the pack and then when i finshed seeing everyone partying up. i don't know maybe its me but I wish i was faster and that I brought someone to run with
