Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I have spoken with Marmadaddy about posting this, and I am posting this with his permission: I have been hosting open water swim clinics in the Indy area for most of this season, usually 4 consecutive Sundays at a time. My June clinic just completed this weekend, with 6 very happy people. These clinics are not designed for those who are already superstrong swimmers, but geared towards those just starting into the world of open water swimming. I am not doing these clinics to make money, but to make your first/second/third/whatever open water swim a safe, successful and fun ordeal. Just to be straight, after sanctioning costs, permitting, etc. I ended up with $20, which I used to buy donuts for the lifeguards/beach staff for the last class. I ended up with $0 - it really is about helping your swimming. Success stories from my June clinic: 1) I had a 16 year old who was a pool swimmer, but was scared of open water, get third place in his first Triathlon with an open water swim. At the beginning, he would NOT get in water above his knees, last week his triathlon was 500 meters open water. 2) His mother was also in my class, and got a 5th place in her age group for that same triathlon. She said this was the first time she was able to get into the water for an open water swim and feel comfortable from the start. 3) An older gentleman, I think 62, did his first triathlon this weekend, and, since the triathlon was at the same place my clinic is swam from, he said he felt very comfortable and like he had "homefield" advantage. The clinic will be ran from Morse Park and Beach in Noblesville, Indiana, on all Sundays in July from 10am through 1PM. The first hour will be a open discussion/classroom type of environment going over US Masters Swimming Open Water Clinic materials, and a 2 hour swim afterwards. Cost to attend is $40 for the July session (4 weeks - $10 per week), and the money goes to pay sanctioning, permitting, lifeguards, kayak, etc. If you are interested in more information, please feel free to contact me via PM or at the following address: tj at coachtj dot com. If you would like to attend, and find you don't have $40 in your budget right now, I am more than willing to work something out, as I am just looking to cover expenses. Scroll down for more information:
Note: A detailed outline with description of meeting point and time will be send out three business days before the event. ![]() About Coach TJCoach TJ Tryon, one of the strongest local swimmers, has shown his swimming skills in many of the local triathlons, with many top 5 swim finishes, including a 2nd place swim finish.
