Subject: Special Olympics Triathlon - Help a special athlete cross the finish line!Just wanted to let post information about the Special Olympics triathlon to be held at DC Ranch in Scottsdale on September 12. This event features a sprint triathlon for any athlete (300yd/20k/5k), and a Unified relay triathlon that pairs one or two adult athletes with a Special Olympics athlete. The SO athlete chooses the leg of the triathlon he/she wants to do, and the other two athletes complete the other legs. The Unified triathlon is 50m swim, 2.5 mile bike, and ½ mile run (yes, half-mile). I signed up as an individual to be assigned to a Unified Team. But if you and another person want to form a Unified team, you can both register for the Unified team and they will assign an SO athlete to your team. There is NO cost to be part of the Unified triathlon, but a secondary goal of the event is to raise money for Special Olympics, so you can donate any amount you choose (I donated $75, which is the fee for the Sprint triathlon).
There are some club prizes for placement and fundraising; if enough BT/ESCKTC athletes are interested in participating, maybe we can do the club thing again! Here’s the link to the site for more information: http://www.specialolympicsarizona.org/events/Triathlon.asp Here’s the link to the site for registering. http://soazunifiedtriathlon.kintera.org/faf/home/default.asp?ievent=302576&lis=0&kntae302576=462A6ED83CAB4E9CADCDF7213392A626 This sounds like a worthwhile event that will be fun and benefit some really special athletes. Let us know if you decide to participate! |
