Valdosta half iron distance race - 08/29/09

I just heard back from the race director and found out this event HAS BEEN CANCELLED for 2009.  Probably should have waited for the call back before posting.  Maybe next year.

OK, I realize that Valdosta isn't Florida, but this event could draw racers from central Florida and north.  I am posting to try and encourage fellow triathletes to take part in this event.  Before I go too far, let me say that I am NOT affiliated with the race organization or the city of Valdosta.  I am in my second year of racing and have my first 70.3 race in Augusta the end of September.  I plan on racing the Valdosta event as part of a team and using the event as a tune up for Augusta.

It is a first year event at this distance and the marketing/promotion of the race has been lacking.  The race needs to have at least 30 entrants signed up by the Friday prior to the event (08/21) in order to keep the event scheduled. At this time, I am not sure what their count is.  Per their website, a full refund will be given if the HIM distance is cancelled or the entry fee can be applied to race in the sprint distance event.  The race is listed on the BT race calendar.

For selfish reasons, yes I would like to see this event take place, but I also believe that for other racers it could be a good prep event for Augusta or IMFL athletes to take part in.  Thanks for taking the time to hear my plea and hopefully we'll get the chance to race this event.
