Subject: How to work with a weaker quad and clip pedals?
Just got a new bike and pedals a week before my sprint tri. Now that I'm clipped in I've realized how much weaker my R quad is 2 years post 60% meniscus removal. I was fitted on my bike and have great drive on the left. The right though is weaker and thus, the hamstring has to help and is burning/tiring sooner. When using these pedals, as I push, do I consciously pull also or only in "emergencies" or let it happen naturally? I anticipate doing more single leg weight work this winter, is there anything else I can do? I've been biking with a hybrid in the past, will being clipped in help the quad or will it continue to just be along for the ride? Also, slightly off topic, it's interesting how when I bike the R hammy tires/tightens early and when I run the R leg is good the L quad tires/tightens early. Guess I will need to foam roll both.
