Subject: First DNF...in a workout
So I had my first DNF ever this weekend during my long bike ride. I had planned to make it a 50 miler, but I ended up cutting it short around mile 38.

So the problems started the night before with me not drinking enough water to hydrate for the next morning, mistake #1. The morning of my ride the snooze button became my friend and I completely overslept so I ended up leaving almost 2 hours after I had planned on heading out, mistake #2. About an hour and a half into the ride I was ready to pull over to a gas station and get some cold drinks as all the water I had on my bike was now luke warm even tho they started as solid ice bottles. Unfortunately there weren't any gas stations on the right side of the road and I didn't want to cross over traffic. By the time I said to myself "screw it I'll cross traffic" I was on a stretch of road without a gas station on either side for 6-7 miles. When I finally hit a gas station I pulled over got off the bike and went inside to get gatorade and ice....however once I started walking I got an awesome case of tunnel vision and had to park my butt on the tile floor inside the convience store. After cooling off and rehydrating I started to get ready to try and finish out the ride and that's when the muscle cramps hit...awesome... So at that point with the temps around 104 is when I called in a pickup and had my first DNF.

Next time:
No Snooze button
Stop when I want to no matter what side the gas station is on
Drink more water the night before
NO Snooze button (I really think the late start killed me with the heat)
