Pre-race routine:

Had to turn around on my way to race because i forgot my stupid race package with the bib, chip and other stuff. When i arrived i drank a bit of water and tried to stay dry as it was raining/snowing outside.
Event warmup:

The organizer said it might be a good idea to jog around the parking lot to get warmed up, i saw others doing it and being my 1st race and not knowing what the hell to do i jogged around the parking lot for about 5mins.

Comments:

I had run the course a few times before with my best time being 50:03 and my goal for the race was sub 50mins. I barely got it but I was very happy because the actual race was a little longer than my practice runs because there was a little loop thru the parking lot beforehand to make it 10k i guess. The weather sucked - freezing cold, rain & snow combo so everyone got soaked. My hands were freezing the first few minutes but after that they did not bother me. The rain was a problem since everything got soaked and added weight. My shoes were drenced and not nice to run on after about 20 mins or so. Because of the sucky conditions i was extra pleased to run under 50mins
What would you do differently?:

Protect my nipples. I had no idea you can scab up your nipples from running. A couple painful showers the next few days but not that bad.

I really woudn't do anything different regarding the run, i pretty much ran my perfect race. It was only about the 4th time i had run outside in over 5 years - i had been running on a treadmill for a few months and ran the course a few times in the weeks leading up to the race.
Post race
Warm down:

Get badgered by some kid to remove my timing chip about 1 minute after crossing the finish line - let me have a rest!!

went inside the arena and scarfed down bagels & cookies and water.

Course: A nice circuit through the town of Parry Sound. I had run it in practice three times the past few weeks. Each time it was a nice sunny day about 15 degrees or so. Of course the race weather was miserable. A fair bit of hills and consisted of two laps.
