Run
Comments: Ran really well. Improved my time from last year's Boston Marathon by 4 minutes. I had no trouble with the hills, but the last 5 miles where tough as my quads paid the price on the early downhill portion of the race. I thought that I would break 3 hours for sure, but I slowed and miscalculated my pace... What would you do differently?: Start a little slower (I always say that - but never do!). Also, maybe I will wear my split times on my wrist. Post race
Warm down: None... waited for my dear Lilia. What limited your ability to perform faster: I don't know. Any suggestions? I still have not broken the 3 hour mark in the marathon, even though pace predictors (based on my times in the 10K and half marathon) put me solidly in the low to mid 2:50's... Maybe a faster course would help... Event comments: I love this race... the people are amazing! I want to run it again next year but Lilia and I want to do the St. Croix Half Ironman in May... the timing of both are too close so it will be one or the other. Run this race! Woke up, took the shuttle from the hotel to the bus loading area in downtown Boston. Rode the bus to Hopkinton... drank a lot of Gatorade on the way... Really had to go by the time we arrived at the school in Hopkinton. Hung out for a few hours, ate and relaxed. Enjoyed the weather, music, people, etc. Mentally prepared for my quest to break 3 hours.
No real warm up. 15 minutes prior to the race I went to the bathroom one last time... Popped a banana Goo... wished Lilia success as we parted in different directions to our starting waves. I jogged the half mile or two the wave start...
