Feature suggestion -- friend 'alert'

So this came to me in the shower today.  How about an option to have a friend's username (on the left in your blog) turn red (or some other similar alert) whenever the friend posts a new race report, or maybe even a new blog entry?  (Maybe there's a option to pick one or the other or both, with different 'alerts' such as 'turn red for new blog entry' and 'add a thin border around for new race report'.  The alert goes away if you look at the friend's blog or race report respectively.)
