Pre-race routine:

This was my first triathlon so I was so anxious! We had a cabin full of first-timers and everyone slept horribly! Anyway, we went to the transition area at 6AM to set up, went back to cabin to relax, had a Clif Bar, drink water, etc.
Event warmup:

Jogged 1/4 of a mile, worked up a sweat with all the layers (brrrr...).

Not bad for my first triathlon, considering how tough swimming was in practice. I need to take lessons! Moving my 6-11 frame through the water takes a lot of energy. But I am very pleased with sticking with the front crawl the entire swim, especially after creating new strokes in practice.
What would you do differently?:

Start closer to the front. I lost time there.

Need to figure out a better system for putting shoes on. I walked out of transition area, then put them on.

Practice my transitions more, shave those important seconds off my overall time!

This was and is my strongets event. I started off real rough, but as I got loose and settled in, I passed a few guys that passed me earlier so I was feeling great.
What would you do differently?:

Quicker transition to the bike. Push it a little more at the beginning. I would love a custome bike that actually fit my body, I have the biggest one Trek makes (63cm).

Again, I need to practice riding into T2 with my shoes already off so it is quicker. I got off the bike and gingerly walked to bike rack with biking shoes on...not good (though my legs probably appreciated the slower pace!).
What would you do differently?:

Ride with feet on top of shoes as I approach the T area.

Wow, better than I expected. I shaved three minutes off my 5k time from a Richfield race a week earlier. I felt really good at the end.
What would you do differently?:

I need to train and run at a higher pace, I think I am capable of it. Gotta get those long legs moving!

Warm down:

Walked around, waited for my friends to finish (all three of us finished within 17 seconds of each other and were in different groups!).

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Trained at slower speeds, but this is my first one and I am working on building an aerobic base before doing speed work this off-season.

Event comments:

Great race! I am excited for next year and this off-season.
