Kalaeloa (Nimitz Beach at the old Barber's Point), Hawaii
United States

Sunny
Total Time = 1h 25m 7s
Overall Rank = 60/
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 5/
Pre-race routine:

Ate to much. I did the same thing at the Kualoa 8k Trail Run. I think I've learned my lesson. Other than that, got up quite early, ate a bowl of Honey-Nut Cheerio's and a banana. I was planning on having a protein bar once arriving at the venue. Getting ready was pretty easy. Suprisingly I had everything I needed. I probably had too much stuff at my T zone. I'll look into it for the next tri.
Event warmup:

Minor stretching and a quick dip in the ocean to get use to the water temp.
Swim
  • 10m 5s
  • 437 yards
  • 02m 19s / 100 yards
Comments:

Not use to the group environment. Not bad though.
What would you do differently?:

I think I could be a little more aggressive in the water. Not that it will really matter much but I think a more aggressive demeanor would set my mood to be more of a charger for the rest of the race.
Transition 1
  • 02m 19s
Comments:

Very slow. HR was high. Not sure if a HRM is really necessary during a race. I think at my entry level status it is advisable in order to keep me for over doing it early on.
What would you do differently?:

I think I need to look for shoes that will allow me to put them on while riding.
Bike
  • 45m 35s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 17.24 mile/hr
Comments:

This is where I feel I really suck. I need lots more time in the saddle. This is also where my big breakfast really showed itself. I felt sick the entire ride due to eating to much.
What would you do differently?:

More T.I.T.S. Lots more T.I.T.S. Eat less before the race.
Transition 2
  • 01m 36s
Comments:

Not bad for a 1st timer.
What would you do differently?:

Put number belt on while running. Try to go without socks especially for runs as short at 5k.
Run
  • 25m 32s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 13s  min/mile
Comments:

The run felt good. The bounce of running seemed to settle my stomach. I had fun cheering for all the other runners as we passed each other on the out and back course.
What would you do differently?:

Push harder at the end.
Post race
Warm down:

Walking and drinking water.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Novice, not enough training.

Event comments:

This was my first tri and it was lots of fun. I hope to greatly improve my ability, lose body weight and improve my technique for an over higher level of enjoyment of this wonderful sport. I'm Hooked!!! :)

HR felt a little high when I got out of the water. I think I was pushing toward the end to make up for my courteous nature earlier in the swim heat.
