Swim
Comments: It's extremely aggravating when people don't put in the correct seed time because you spend the entire second part of the swim getting smacked and trying to pass people in a narrow lane. There were lots of swimmers in line to start so they need to keep things moving 15 seconds apart, but people need to put in the correct seed time, not just a guess. What would you do differently?: It was a good swim despite all of the people to pass. I wouldn't change much. Transition 1
Comments: I didn't get my transition split, but it felt very fast. Being my first tri I wasn't comfortable enough putting my shoes on while on the bike, so I put them on in transition. It went okay and very fast. I was happy with it. What would you do differently?: Nothing, it was a fast transition. Bike
Comments: I'm still really shaky on the bike. I had just gotten my road bike 2 weeks before the race and was still trying to get used to it. I dropped a water bottle on the way, and was unsure about the whole pacing/drafting rules, so I was overly cautious. As I ride more I'll feel more confident to go fast into the turns. What would you do differently?: I will train on my bike more often and practice getting my water bottle out and in. Otherwise it was fun for my first ride! Transition 2
Comments: I had practiced my transition a few times before the race, so I felt ready to do it. I was in my zone and just did my thing. I tied a balloon to my area so I knew where to re-rack my bike. This may be a silly thing that only newbies do, but who cares, it put my mind at ease to find my transition area. What would you do differently?: Get a race belt. I hate pinning on my number to my running jersey. Plus, it's faster. Run
Comments: My legs were pretty tired after the bike, but I picked up speed after the first mile and relaxed. I was having fun cheering other people on, and it kept myself motivated. The run was really fun. By the end I was sprinting into the finish. What would you do differently?: Nothing, great for my first tri. Post race
Warm down: I did a quick jog around the block to catch up with my husband who was on the course cheering me on earlier. Then relaxed with food and drinks. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of training and being a newbie. It was fast enough for me! Event comments: The results were slow. My husband and I waste about two hours in the hot sun waiting for the results and then finally left because we need to get home. The showeres weren't open when I finished so I didn't get one after the race, they finally opened them after I was dressed. When I found out that Tuesday that I won my division, the race director promised to send the awards (hats), but after three emails asking for them, I still have yet to see my hat. Oh, well. It was my first tri so that's why I wanted it. The goody pack was cool though, with lots of freebies and a nice sweat towel. I would do this race again and have even more fun doing it with some experience. Last updated: 2006-03-15 12:00 AM

Age Group Rank = 1/13
Stayed in hotel the night before and went to bed early. Got up and ate right away (2 hours before race). My stuff was all packed so I just had to put on my tri-suit and pack up the car. Got to the sight before it was light out, got my number, set-up my transition and went for a quick jog. Came back, aired up my tires, made last minutes checks, used the restroom and went to go warm-up in the pool.
Did a 200 swim, then some pace 100's.
