Comments: I could not get a rhythm into my swim. Much was due to not enough cold water training and choosing to not use the neoprene warmer cap that I bought. Face was cold and it effected breathing for me. Lots of congestion at the start since some people walked further down the beach and started swimming rather than at the entry. Once I got to the buoy it got better, but I was still swimming over people. One of my worst swims ever. What would you do differently?: More cold water training, better sighting and lines for the swim would work. Maybe even start further up Transition 1
Comments: Pins and needles is all I have to say. Luckily, they had stools at the transition spots to help get the wetsuit off and socks on. Once that was done, I was off and running out with my bike. Almost ran over a couple of people, sorry to those. What would you do differently?: Stand up getting suit off, try using socks less on rides and runs so I do not have to waste that extra time. Bike
Comments: Okay, the start of the course was rough with 2 inclines right away. After that, did not realize the tailwind, but was hauling I feel. (On the way out, I believe I was clocking at 18-21 mph and around 90 RPM) Was using the second ring on my cranks, which I know should be for hills, but I was really trying to push the aerobic vs. the anaerobic. On the way back I hit the wind and the wall for me. Slowed down to about 75 rpm and that dropped my pace. What would you do differently?: More riding, and better work in my big ring to get more speed. Transition 2
Comments: Took some drinks before heading out. Threw the bike off, and could not get it set right. Other that that it seemed to go pretty well. What would you do differently?: Better bike seating in spot. Drink more before coming into T2 Run
Comments: I HATE THE RUN!!! It is my nemesis. With that said, I felt okay. Did walk more than I like, so I need more hill training and that is on me. Ran it hard back into the finish. I felt my form was good, and it felt better. What would you do differently?: Train on hills more. Post race Warm down: Walked, got some OJ, a granola bar for me and my son and a pastry, which later went to my hungry son. Other than that nothing spectacular. Event comments: I will do this race again. I hope the hiccups are worked out, and that maybe they choose to have it later so the lake could be warmer. Woke up, brushed teeth etc. Nothing too unusual, except that I drove with my brother to the race. Got to transition and for some reason felt a little more rushed than I usually do at the race. Time seemed to fly by once everything was set up.
Briefly got to jump in the water before the meeting
