Comments:

Couldn't see a thing until I was at the first bouy. Wind was driving us there, so I went out fast. At the turn, I was amazed by the gusts. Felt like I wasn't getting anywhere. Time stood still. When I turned at the final bouy and headed in, I thought the shore would never come. Turns out, I was like 9th out of the water, with a group of 150 or so in my wave
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, I guess

Time is an estimate.... watch stopped when I was taking off my suit, which caught on the watch band. I was fighting the one sleeve for the whole 100+ meter run up the shore and to my area. Got everything else on/off in very good time. Hopped on the bike and went up the little hill there, but the gears on the bike were not working right (again!?). Must have been a little snag, because 1/2 mile in, everything was hunky dory.
What would you do differently?:

Get my arm out better

Comments:

There are no hills on this course, except the very beginning and very end, and they're nothing to talk about.

The wind... now there's something to talk about. Behind you, it pushed you to record times. In your face, it was like you were climbing a hill. Took me most of the ride to come to grips with it. By the end, when the gusts came head on, I would catch several people, just like on a hill.
What would you do differently?:

Overall, I should have pushed harder on the bike. Was too afraid of bonking, but I had more to give and was passed far too frequently.

Did great getting off the bike and getting to the racks. Did great getting my socks & shoes on. Somewhere along the way, a piece of glass got under my sock (ouch!)
What would you do differently?:

not get glass on my sock

Comments:

Went out at a good clip and got a bit dismayed by the sand. Let a few people pass me in there. Came out of the sand and regrouped, catching several people. Final mile was stronger, but not crazy hard. Good finish overall.
What would you do differently?:

Keep my spirits up in the sand. Push harder over the final mile.
Post race
Warm down:

stretch and wait 3 hours for the international to finish.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

not enough training on the bike or overall to build my confidence.... was unsure of my fitness and my actions showed it.

Event comments:

Good early season race. Well organized and fun course. Nothing overwhelming as far as the terrain goes. Can set PR's here if you're ready.
