Comments: Two guys took off in front and I was in a pack of five a little behind the leaders for the first .75 mi. There was a good amount of jostlling for position, but I eventually broke away from the pack and shortly caught one of the two leaders, who was fading. I held second from just before the 1mi mark to the finish. I had the leader in sight, but there was no was I was going to catch him, and I was quite sure he wasn't coming back to me. I was really running alone the last two miles. On the turns I could see the third place runner about 150 yard back. I was hurting but he must have been too, since I consistently built my cushion. It was nice to finish second in a race, even if it a small one. Very happy with the time as well. I still need to do speed work, and build my anaerobic fitness, but this shows promise. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Post race
Warm down: I took a 1.8 mile jog around the neighborhood, as I was waiting for the awards ceremony. What limited your ability to perform faster: No taper, but I wouldn't taper for this race anyway. Last updated: 2012-06-02 12:00 AM

Decided to sign up at the last minute. Quick strech and then lined up in front, as I expected to be one of the faster runners.
A little light jog around the side streets.
