Subject: Ironman European Championship

Finished my first ironman!

It started in 2009 with a sprint triathlon adn now my legs feel sore the day after "the longest day of the year" as they call it in Frankfurt,

I received a lot of help also reading this forum and love the training log. I bought the book from Don Fink and followed the competitive program.

These advices were of gold value:

-join a master swim class: it is fun and it's value for improving your swim is gold, technique drills are also good for endurance as i never swam more then 3000m continuously  before my ironman, (i did sessions where the parts totalled to over 4500m but with rest in between)

-biking: get as much miles in the saddle as you can, we can dream of nice bike to make us faster, but the bottom line is the person on top makes 95% of the difference, i biked along all the top brand bikes on the course and they weren't faster because they paid 5 times more then me on my road bike with bull horns, clipons and reversed saddle. That the straw of my aerodrink was not aero or my brakecables were not routed perfect was of very little concern

-running: i love running so building up the miles is important as long as your body says no and find somethig you can eat so you keep on running on race day (for me honey waffles and gels)

grts
