Swim
Comments: My first ocean swim. The chop made rhythm and breathing difficult. Incredibly salty: burned my mouth. However, i had a great time compared to my last Oly swim... about 11 minutes less. Sighting was difficult if I looked up while in the trough of the waves, but I could tell that i was doing better than some around me that were zigzagging. Transition 1
Comments: Did not take advantage of the strippers as i didn' t want to get sandy and didn't trust them to not damage my new suit. Otherwise, I got my gear on pretty easily. I usually have trouble getting my shirt on but I used tons of body glide this time. Transition area was very tight, they did not utilize all the space they had given the road was closed. I had a hard time removing my bike because of people sitting in aisles, etc. What would you do differently?: Run a little faster. Get spot closer to center aisle. Bike
Comments: Spun my feet fast as I didn't want to bonk on the run. Felt good but could have gone harder. I made sure to look around and soak up the scenery. This is vacation after all. I drove over 1200 miles to get here! Transition 2
Comments: The knots came out of the ends of the elastic speedlaces, so I had to tie them. That used a little time but I still ranked 2nd in CD for T2. Run
Comments: Drank gatorade at each stop and threw a cup or two of water over my head. Felt good, likely negative split. I have not been training so as to recover from ankle injury at the end of the local season, so I was pleased to put down a run split only a minute off my oly run split PR this past July when I was in good shape. What would you do differently?: Could have turned on the final kick sooner. Post race
Warm down: Light stretching, some water, gatorade, half a banana and half a bagel. Bought a burger at the stand. Unfortunate that the food was not more substantial. Looks like they spent their $ on booze. What limited your ability to perform faster: Off season Event comments: I'll attribute the 11 minute PR to this race being wetsuit legal and very flat. I really enjoyed the scenery, running in palm shade along the beach at 75 degrees in December. Swag was cotton t-shirt, tech hat, finisher medal, and wristband for racer party with open bar at 8pm at Ricks. Guys and gals, do this race. Last updated: 2012-11-17 12:00 AM

Dinner and booze the night before at Sloppy Joes. This is a vacation after all, I just happen to be doing a race. Packed bag before bed. Up at 430am, pumped up tires, and rode the 5 minutes from our Inn to the race site. Funny to hear nothing but roosters on that ride. Ate a Powerbar. Got to transition early and was the second to the rack, so took the spot next to the fence.
A little stretching on the beach. The timing company was scrambling to set up the mats at swim entry, so I didn't go in early. Waded in five minutes before my wave start.
