Age Group Rank = 18/19
Pre-race routine:

arrive in good time after setting off at 4am, get set up. Join the rest of the club waiting for the start (late wave, 7:28am)
Had some dates and almonds in the car, a banana. Had another coffee (black, sweet) around 6:30am
Event warmup:

bit of stretching
Swim
  • 21m 30s
  • 750 meters
  • 02m 52s / 100 meters
Comments:

Felt like it took a lot longer than it should have. I felt reasonably strong, just didn't seem to be getting anywhere. Had trouble sighting int the rising sun, especially once the goggles fogged up, and was disillusionedwith the later waves swimming over me
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

better than Bribie; managed to find my bike and get out fairly well.
Bike
  • 50m 56s
  • 20 kms
  • 23.56 km/hr
Comments:

Felt fairly good but I think I pushed too hard for my level of fitness at the start, felt pretty flat towards the end. Drank maybe half a bottle of gatorade (with extra salt)
What would you do differently?:

For the conditions and how I felt, pretty well just this
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

not too bad
Run
  • 35m 38s
  • 5 kms
  • 07m 08s  min/km
Comments:

Felt bloody awful. Couldn't get any sort of rhythm going, had to take frequent walk breaks. My legs, my core, my mind just were not co-operating, not helped by knowing I was almost the last one out on the course and everyone else was home having coffee. Waaa!
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

This race felt so different to the sprint at Bribie a month ago, then I felt strong and like I could keep going. This time, despite pushing less, having a lower HR and slower times, i felt like crap. I think the main limiter was the lack of muscular endurance after the bike. I haven't been training at intensity, or as often, this month and by god it shows.
Oh well- there's one for experience, and move on!

Event comments:

Well-run race on a (for everyone else) fast course. Just not me this time round.

At mile ten I heard a noise like I had gotten paper in my spokes or something. I looked but saw nothing but a few seconds later my rear tire blows out.

Are these races too close together to give me any sort of recovery? Will I be spent and unhappy racing back to back weekends and then again two weeks after that?

When I told my husband that I planned to work toward completing a sprint triathlon, he smiled and was supportive, but a bit disbelieving.

The challenge? The accomplishment? I want to do this because it is an opportunity to live life. The event is an indoor sprint triathlon. I get to experience the challenge on a safer scale.

This plan is designed to make you go faster. 3 workouts per week in each sport, 2 days of strength training and core work. The maximum volume is around 10 hours toward the end of the 12 weeks.

Since your “A” race is your marathon, which you stated in your question, this should be your main focus. I encourage you to taper a bit for the sprint distance triathlon.
