Swim
Comments: Timed it wrong, was still ######## with my goggles on the beach with 2 minutes to go, and still had to swim 75 yds out to starting point in the water. OOPS. I just got out, and the wave started. OOPS. I was quickly at the back of the pack, but I still felt good and swam fairly well (for me). The water was a little nasty and had a petrol quality to it. The next wave caught me with 200 yds to go, which sucked... What would you do differently?: Get to the starting point on time!!! Transition 1
Comments: The transition area was huge and definitley not laid out in a manner that was fair to all. At least I wasn't at the far end of the area like some of the others. I took my time changing out of my wetsuit to avoid any back issues that I have had recently. I was definitely gasping for some air as I got out of the water, hoofed it to the rack, etc. It took me several minutes on the bike to really recover. What would you do differently?: Just try to be quicker without doing anything dumb. Bike
Comments: I hydrated really good (I had just got my aero bars put on, with the profile bottle). I wanted to better on the hills, but still had a great ride. I thought I would compare better than I did, but I guess those other guys were working hard too. Other than equip improvement (zipp 404's calling me??), I don't know if I could ride that course any faster at this point. What would you do differently?: Try to get into a brisk pace faster coming out of T1. Transition 2
Comments: I again took my time getting into my running shoes and spraying a quick dose of Kool n' Fit on my right leg to help with soreness/cramping issues that have plagued me lately. I was able to get out on the run with no body parts mounting an all out revolt! What would you do differently?: Try to practice getting out of bike shoes while still riding. Run
Comments: I hydrated too well I guess. I did not have any cramping problems, but had to stop for a pee break at mile 2. Small delay, but needed. I felt really tired, really slow. Was getting passed like crazy. Being competative just makes that part hard... I was pouring lots of water on my head/neck while running and stayed cool. My leg held in during the race, but hurt like crap as soon as I was done. I wanted to run faster, but it just wasn't happening. I am really looking forward to being able to comfortably run at a faster pace.... What would you do differently?: Try to pick up the pace at end of 1st mile and hold it there. Try not to get passed by all the people I worked so hard to get ahead of during the swim/bike segments. Post race
Warm down: Much limping. Had a massage and that helped. What limited your ability to perform faster: Stupid right leg and about 25 extra lbs that feel like 200. Event comments: I enjoyed this race alot. It was my 1st Olympic. It will give a benchmark to try to improve on next year. Last updated: 2004-07-17 12:00 AM
